About this deal
The most common form of Raynaud’s is primary Raynaud’s phenomenon. This means the condition occurs by itself, without being associated with another health condition. About 9 in 10 people with scleroderma have Raynaud’s phenomenon. This may be the only scleroderma symptom they have for many years.
Vibration white finger and Raynaud’s symptoms often get worse when your blood vessels constrict and expand too rapidly. That’s why some professionals recommend avoiding foods that can affect your blood vessels, such as: Serotonin, a neurotransmitter, has been found in high concentrations in people with Raynaud’s Other possibilities These complications normally require admission to hospital, where you’ll be given medication designed to thin your blood, which should help to restore blood flow.
Complications
Thermal aesthesiometry test: to measure the thermal receptors (for cold/heat). • Purdue pegboard test: to measure dexterity and any loss of movement in either hand. • Cold provocation test: provides visual evidence of blanching. Primary Raynaud’s syndrome isn’t serious and doesn’t damage your blood vessels. It may disrupt some of your daily activities, but it’s not dangerous.
For example, if it’s cold outside, blood vessels near your skin’s surface constrict to move blood to veins deeper in your body. This allows your body to conserve heat. Your blood vessels also constrict when you’re stressed to help your body save oxygen. There’s some evidence that primary Raynaud’s may be an inherited condition, as cases have been known to run in families. Secondary Raynaud’sPeople with Raynaud’s phenomenon have an increased risk of developing other problems, such as scleroderma. Scleroderma encourage your blood circulation by keeping warm, stopping smoking and massaging and exercising your fingers during your breaks Another family of drugs used to treat severe Raynaud’s are the phosphodiesterase inhibitors (foss-fo-dye-ess-tur-aze in-hib-e-turs), which include sildenafil – trade name Viagra. These are drugs that can treat a number of conditions, including high blood pressure in the blood vessels supplying the lungs and erectile dysfunction. They can help with Raynaud’s because they improve blood flow around the body. There is a test that involves looking at the tissue from a fingernail under a microscope. It will help doctors look closely at the small blood vessels in your fingers. This test is called a nailfold microscopy, or a capillaroscopy (cap-ill-er-os-copy). If you have scleroderma, it’s likely that you’ll get Raynaud’s symptoms at some stage. However, having Raynaud’s doesn’t mean that you’ll go on to develop scleroderma or another connective tissue disease.
