About this deal

For help with settings and technical specifications, read our guide on how to use a DSLR camera. Step-by-step Make a conceptual plan I did feel sorry for what her fear was. And yes, she endangered things, but I can imagine that she just wanted to show that she could lead. That she was strong. The transport ship Orion is four months out of Earth when catastrophe strikes – leaving the ship and everyone on board stranded in deep space But I’m also especially happy that Orion Lost in particular has been shortlisted, for other, non pandemic-related reasons, too.

So maybe you really love football. Right. And maybe you... you really know what you're talking about when you talk about football. Maybe you love the game. You love watching, you know your team, you know all the transfer costs and all the things that have been going on. So why not use that. Take your story and set it around a football game. It could be on the pitch, it could be in the terraces, watching, it could be in the changing rooms halfway through, it could be just somebody at home, really, really loving their team and wanting them to win. Lots of unexpected events kept me on the edge of my seat as I devoured this book in just a few days! Think about how all five senses experience the world around you, both inside and outside of the spaceship. GETTING THE FAMILY INVOLVED (+0.5) - "I understand you've already met my son" ends me every time. Like how do you even respond to that? Is it enthusiastic or a vague warning? Both? I swear once the family gets dragged into rivalries they get 10x better. Are we going to get mutiny? Is it going to be reminiscent of Lord of the Flies? Are they going to get assimilated by the aliens (who NOBODY has ever seen, but they have strange ships and weird technology)? And what about the outlaws (there's a name for them but I forget it and I don't have the book in front of me at the moment and it's a walk across the front yard in the pouring rain to my sleep-out to get it)?? Now for something different. NGC 1662 is a lovely mag. 6.4 open cluster forming a right-angle triangle with mag. 4.6 Pi 1 (π 1) Orionis and mag. 4.4 Pi 2 (π 2) Orionis, the two stars at the top of Orion’s Shield. Pi 1 Orionis sits in the right angle. This is another overlooked target, said to resemble a Klingon Bird of Prey from Star Trek. Today the shortlists for the 2021 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize have been announced, and I am absolutely delighted that Orion Lost, the debut novel by Alastair Chisholm, has been recognised in the Younger Readers category.

Mintaka is a complex multiple star, comprising a mag. 6.8 star 52 arcseconds to the north of the primary and a far fainter 14th magnitude star in between. What would life be like inside the spaceship? How would you eat, sleep and exercise? Can you come up with different ways to describe these conditions? But other than those two points I really enjoyed this book and I loved it to bits. I flew through it. There are twists and turns. Secrets uncovered. Friendship being made. Tough decisions. And if you are looking for an exciting space adventure, read this one. Lance and his friends aren't looking forward to the school trip to Crater Lake - for one thing, school bully Trent hasn't forgiven Lance for the incident at the start of Year Six. For another, they've just seen a man covered in blood at the side of the road warning them to run. And there's definitely something weird about their teachers... Spooky, thrilling …

Keep in touch

The book can be read on several levels; it is a fantastic, gripping story, with totally unexpected plot twists, but it is also a fascinating study in leadership and what qualities make for the best leaders - the book seems to suggest that healthy self-doubt is a far more useful tool to those who lead than simply being a leader by birthright. I really enjoyed it!
