This way your children have to ‘read’ the next instruction after each round and complete the challenge independently. This is a great pre-reading activity that teaches children that symbols represent ideas and messages. Play hide and seek with the bean bags by hiding them around the house or garden and then sending your kids to look for them. They can earn a point for each beanbag they find. You can also play this using just 3 counters per team. If all three counters have been placed on the grid and no team has won by creating a line of their counters, then the next team player can run to the grid and reposition one of their team’s counters. Counters keep being repositioned one at a time by players until there is a winning team or they run out of a predetermined set amount of time (eg 5 minutes). Water-based (Swimming pool version) An alternative is that players have to get into the water and go to the grid to place their counter.

The Princess of Wales finished second best after taking on double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes – at a game of bean-bag noughts and crosses. Turn the music on and dance while tossing a beanbag up in the air and to each other. When the music stops, you have to freeze in position.

The children sat criss-cross applesauce in a circle and wrapped one arm across their bellies and used their other arm to receive and pass the bean bag from one friend to the other. Step Two: Divide your class into two groups. Ask them to make two lines about 20 metres from the grid. Tip: Use cones to mark the front of the lines. Place the pile of bean bags in front of the first person in each group. Make sure each group has different coloured bean bags.

Time kids for completing all the tasks and then encourage them to attempt to beat their time. 19. Bean Bag Twister Try pairing an adult with a child as this could be physically challenging.
