About this deal

Reviewing my calendar for available time on when to work on this project, I declare to myself that I will spend an hour at 4:00 PM on a Monday afternoon, because that is the time I have at work. A final imperfection is that any book dealing with the mind should account for psychological challenges that hold us back. I would probably recommend this before reading Deep Work, Atomic Habits, and The 12 Week Year (though I did get a lot out of all of those books as well). But in this, a bit chaotic, combination, its ⭐️4 stars for me overall, maybe a little less (but I am counting other Davids works that adds up to this book). The side benefits of doing this successfully are that resisting the urge to heed distractions helps strengthen your prefrontal cortex, and that once you’re actually 10 minutes into working on your task, it’s easier to continue working on it.

The structure of Kadavy's approach to creative work is incredibly flexible, giving you a concrete place to start with your efforts while also leaving room to shape every part of the process to your specific needs. In this article, we delve into the concept of mind management, explore its benefits, and understand why it trumps traditional time management.Like many books, it is about getting things done, but it faithfully serves its specific audience: creatives. This book was part memoir, part personal classification and management of creative moods, and some mixes of the two. I have used that approach in my own task management system for the last several months, and have benefited by looking at tasks by mental state when determining the next thing I need to work on, as well as blocking time in my calendar for tasks according to mental state. My one takeaway from this book is that I wish it was a bit more organized, it felt a bit all over the place although the content was great! By the end of the day when I'm doing administrative tasks, I have to listen to fiction--I don't have the mental capacity for learning anything new.

Es muy probable que mi mente inconsciente encuentre alguna solución por sí sola, ya que los humanos podemos procesar ese tipo de cosas en el 'fondo'. You can read it and check another self improvement or productivity book off your list, but I think there is enough here that a lot of the other stuff out there fits with this and supports it; or, maybe better said, this book gives us a foundation to build on, taking anything and everything we might have already known to the next level, or even the level above that, if we DO what David has given us.I understand how the author perfected his own creativity system, and there are some useful nuggets there, but is it something applicable to every life? Kadavy suggests that by understanding our mental states and organizing our tasks accordingly, we can get more done and focus on what's most important. It's a fresh approach to productivity by focusing on getting more out of your mind (in stead of struggling to get more out of your time). I have found myself forced to adopt a Generate mental state during evenings or mid-afternoons, after a long day.

However, there were two issues that made my reading experience slightly less than ideal: 1) it’s was a bit repetitive; 2) his personal stories were too long— could’ve been summarised without losing the wisdom they impart. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Because the generating of insights is a seemingly magical thing that doesn't depend on intense focus and scrutiny, we need a different strategy for ensuring we are always generating new creative ideas.Mind management enables us to channel our focus and attention on the task at hand, leading to deeper engagement and enhanced productivity.

Make time for planning: Making planning a separate, dedicated activity has two benefits: 1) You can do it when your mental energy for planning is high (I like Sunday evenings), so that you do better planning, and 2) It frees up your precious prefrontal cortex to do other activities — since the planning and prioritization has already been done. I didn’t have much time to think about what was going on during the book writing process, but once the smoked cleared, I began to get more fascinated by what, exactly, my brain was doing throughout all of this.A digital nomad, Kadavy is sharing the tools that have helped him churn out numerous books, podcast episodes, and other writings. Finally, Kadavy explains how to leverage the power of Creative Cycles and how to develop Creative Systems that are repeatable and applicable to any of your current and future projects. Mindfulness meditation is a powerful technique that enhances self-awareness and the ability to stay present, reducing stress and promoting mental clarity.
