About this deal

He made sure the Romans left Britainia and freed animals gladiators from amphitheatres across Europe. This is a funny and interesting book ideal for anyone aged 6-12 who likes a good story, embedded with facts from the real world . This is the fourth book in the fabulously funny Pigsticks and Haroldseries, which would particularly appeal to reluctant readers. I am definitely going to keep an eye out for more of Gary’s books beause they are so funny and very child-friendly (in a good way! Ik zal persoonlijk de schrijfstijl nooit gaan waarderen, maar dit boek bevat wel, in tegenstelling tot bijv.

Whilst it was good to get to know the back story of the characters, I don’t feel that it actually lessened my enjoyment. What happens when you mix the gladiatorial combat of ancient Rome with a fast-talking creature who is DEFINITELY NOT A STRIPY HORSE? The humour here reminded me of the Asterix graphic novels at times, the books are also partly graphic with comic-style pages and pictures, lots of comic asides and speech bubbles. One day, Julius was escorted to fight his brother Brutus, luckily, Julius won and Hadrian took into a bag with two snakes and put into a river. From a smelly watering hole deep in the heart of the Serengeti to the ferocious clamour of the Colosseum, join Julius Zebra and his motley menagerie of friends as they gear up to be … gladiators! comes a hilarious romp and mad-cap story set in Roman Britain, cram-packed with jokes and bursting with action. Friendship, time-travel, humour and animals all mixed together make a great read for 7+ boys and girls.

However, more by luck than judgement, he ends up fighting back (something an animal has never done) and he quickly becomes the people's champion. A zebra is an ordinary zebra but when it goes to Egypt it becomes a Pharoah (the Egyptians think that). I prefer normal books because proper books give you more information about the characters and the story.Set in ancient Rome, this is the hilarious tale of Julius, a zebra who is seized from his African watering hole and shipped hundreds of miles away to face the gladiators in combat at the Colosseum. He tries to imagine the water as crystal-clear sparkling water from a mountain, but as soon as he tastes it, he knows better. This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. When I read the book it made me feel lucky that I didn't live in ancient Rome because there were fierce battles including animals and humans. My favourite character is Brutus as he is really funny and at one part of the story he found some old smelly seaweed and used it as a wig.

But when hapless antelope Felix accidentally stumbles upon the Tomb of Cleopatra; he steals a gem for his rock collection; unknowingly bringing a pharaohs curse down upon the group. Kniha síce obsahuje aj posolstvo - priateľstvo, odvaha, lámanie predsudkov voči sebe samému, ale jej hlavným posolstvom je pobaviť. He joined the British small press comics [3] community in 1999, creating various titles such as Great! These pictures have to be read along side the text, they make up part of the story and something about this style of book is just so appealing and I really enjoy it. Gary's work is also published in The Beano, The Dandy and National Geographic Kids among many other magazines.

But do Julius and his pals have what it takes to succeed in a world where only the meanest and toughest survive? I enjoyed the book because it tells you about the Roman times and I really loved learning about the Romans in school. The characters were well thought out, the fight scenes were epic, and the final fight was a moment of awesome. In 2013, Walker Books published The Terrible Tales Of The Teenytinysaurs, a collection of never-before published strips.
