About this deal

It’s obvious from the get-go that Silas is one of those people whose orbit you just can’t get out of, even if you want to. However, he soon becomes exhausted from the afternoon heat and falls asleep until it is nearly sundown. It had a very strong start that I loved, and I also appreciated the symbolism that Chapman pumps through this story. But instead, we have three different storylines mashed together and then one of them was yeeted out the window.

So I looked at the Ghost Eater archetype which seems interesting but one issue with it is that there are quite limited opponents to use it against. A great choice for fans of A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay, Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and Orphans of Bliss, edited by Mark Matthews. It's as though Chapman is trying too hard to be hip and cutting-edge, or at least to make his characters out to be, and that makes for a lot of choppy and nonsensical sentences.

Spoiled, self-righteous, and obnoxious, they inspire little reader sympathy, despite the horror they find themselves caught up in. Unfortunately I found things getting a little drawn out about three quarters of the way through which can really suck for a slow reader like myself but I stuck it out and the ending picked right up and had my heart beating and my knuckles turning white!

I'm not entirely sure how to make a ghost troop but I think here is also a good place to make it relevant again.Ghost Eaters are ectophages, mortals who have discovered a way to consume ghosts for Plasm, which they use to prolong their lives.

The warriors of Minata frequently contend with lost spirits of the Taumatan people that haunt their shattered lands to this day.Just think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas combined with a number of ghost stories, and then you're somewhat close to describing this novel. She’s on the cusp of interviewing for a new job in the field she wants a career in and is trying to “do all the right things”, and she starts thinking that she needs to cut Silas and his addictive, erratic behaviors out of her life to be able to do this.

Amara and I are the only ones left on the street, so we plant our hands on Tobias’s scrawny ass and heave-ho him over. I will caveat by saying that if you don't connect to the characters, this might be an entirely useless book for you - but I have my own Silas, so I was straight in and eating this up with a spoon.Regardless, I will continue to read Chapman's work, he's definitely got the goods to produce an exceptionally horrific tale, this one just didn't quite knock it out of the park for me. Next we have the "I need to find Silas even though he's a mega POS who used me like a crack pipe" storyline.
