Dutch, Stephen. "Ice Structure". University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Archived from the original on 16 October 2016 . Retrieved 12 July 2017.

The result of this process is that ice (in its most common form) floats on liquid water, which is an important feature in Earth's biosphere. It has been argued that without this property, natural bodies of water would freeze, in some cases permanently, from the bottom up, [12] resulting in a loss of bottom-dependent animal and plant life in fresh and sea water. Sufficiently thin ice sheets allow light to pass through while protecting the underside from short-term weather extremes such as wind chill. This creates a sheltered environment for bacterial and algal colonies. When sea water freezes, the ice is riddled with brine-filled channels which sustain sympagic organisms such as bacteria, algae, copepods and annelids, which in turn provide food for animals such as krill and specialised fish like the bald notothen, fed upon in turn by larger animals such as emperor penguins and minke whales. As I really love your article and love how you shared your data. Anybody with an AMD soft spot would really be alarmed at the temps. My 8350 was water-cooled and never hit 55c with a few exceptions. But yea running 66c for long periods of time isn't healthy for your CPU, even if the TJmax is 72c.

Anyways yea AS5 is such a old thermal paste when it comes to enthusiast brands. Almost every modern aftermarket heatsink would come with AS5 quality paste with their heatsink, since Arctic Silver 5 came out circa 2001? I mean I still squirm a little when people still use it cuz of it's 200 hour set in time and laypeople are just running benchies like 1-7 days after the install. Pretty sure that cooler master paste is just toothpaste really honestly IMO. With that out of the way, two things to note: Arctic Silver 5 not only keeps the core cooler, it has significantly less temperature fluctuation. I believe this to be showing that there is a great ease of transition for heat from the core to the heatsink, while with the Ice Fusion paste more heat has to be built up for the transition to be smoother. To heat 1kg of liquid water from 0°C to 20°C requires 83.6kJ (see below). However, heating 0°C ice to 20°C requires additional energy to melt the ice. We can treat these two processes independently and using the specific heat capacity of water to be 4.18J/(g⋅K); thus, to heat 1kg of ice from 273.15K to water at 293.15K (0°C to 20°C) requires: These values are mostly from the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 62nd edition. The conversion between cal/g and J/g in the above table uses the thermochemical calorie (cal th) = 4.184 joules rather than the International Steam Table calorie (cal INT) = 4.1868 joules.

The enthalpy of fusion is almost always a positive quantity; helium is the only known exception. [1] Helium-3 has a negative enthalpy of fusion at temperatures below 0.3 K. Helium-4 also has a very slightly negative enthalpy of fusion below 0.77K (−272.380°C). This means that, at appropriate constant pressures, these substances freeze with the addition of heat. [2] In the case of 4He, this pressure range is between 24.992 and 25.00atm (2,533kPa). Some reviewers have even stated that the finish you get from ProDec Advance Ice Fusion rollers is on a par with a spray finish. Which just goes to show why so many pro-decorators are making the switch to both ProDec Advance brushes and rollers. An orthorhombic, low-temperature equilibrium form of hexagonal ice. It is ferroelectric. Ice XI is considered the most stable configuration of ice I h. [44] From these figures it can be seen that one part ice at 0°C will cool almost exactly 4 parts water from 20°C to 0°C. Sleet (glossary entry)".
