About this deal

Fast forward to February 1992, and the band were signed to the independent record label, Nude. Hailed by the press “as the next big thing”, they released their first single, ‘The Drowners’, in May that year. The band were fast on their way to becoming one of Britain’s best-beloved bands. It was a genuinely magical time in my life and one for which I’ll always be grateful,” says lead singer Brett Anderson. “It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album.”

Meanwhile, the band have recently been touring in support of their acclaimed 2022 album Autofiction. Speaking to NME last year, Anderson revealed that the band were already at work on their next album. Producer Ed Buller has approved the mixes and has been impressed with Wilson’s work saying: “It’s wonderful that we can now revisit this 30 years later and allow Steven Wilson and his fabulous ears to reposition this music in Dolby Atmos. I am very grateful he has resisted the temptation to fix past perceived mistakes and was keen to show the original approach intact”.This edition has been newly mastered by Phil Kinrade from the original ½” tapes and production masters, overseen and approved by producer Ed Buller. The vinyl lacquer was expertly cut using precision half-speed mastering by Barry Grint at AIR Mastering. Half-speed mastering is a vinyl cutting technique that improves groove accuracy and transient information creating an incredibly detailed stereo image with a natural high frequency response. For the first time on an SDE-exclusive blu-ray, bonus video is featured and this disc includes the following promo videos for all four Suede singles, remastered/restored to HD (their first –and possibly only –physical release): The next record that we’re planning to write, and have already started, is much more experimental,” he told NME. “I don’t really know if there’s an arc with [ Autofiction]. I’m not seeing it as a selection of albums. You just have to do it one at a time, really. I do think of those three records as [being] together, especially Night Thoughts and The Blue Hour, but the next record will be completely different.” The next record that we’re planning to write, and have already started, is much more experimental,” he told NME. “I don’t really know if there’s an arc with [‘Autofiction’]. It felt incredible being in what I thought was quite probably the most exciting band in the world at the time, making a record which felt like more than just another band making another album.”

However, tensions would soon erupt within the band. Engulfed by all the trappings of stardom, excess and all, something had to give. Butler, who had become hailed as the spiritual successor to The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr, departed the group in spring 1994, citing tensions between him and Anderson. You don’t need to sign-up to a streaming service such as Tidal or Apple Music to hear the spatial audio mix The debut Suede album didn’t want a scrap with the Northern alleged hard bastards or mix with The Mixer crowd in Camden. They created a sound which still hits you in the gut today. Butler’s guitar sound is revered everywhere to this day and Anderson, although called a Bowie copiest with his gender flirting and arse slapping on stage like a Morrissey without the daffs and hearing aid was a commanding force. The outsiders inside have come up trumps recently with the amazing Autofiction reviewed here by Ged Babey which easily matches their debut and confirms Suede as one our best British bands ever.
