About this deal

years later and Bram Stoker's Dracula still holds up as one of the most popular vampire movies and one of the best horror movies of all time.

In keeping with the operatic and overly histrionic approach to the material, the film’s performances are almost uniformly dialed up to 11. The sets are grand opera run riot - Gothic extravaganza intercut with the Victorian London of gaslights and fogbound streets, rogues in top hats and bad girls in bustier. The script itself is a triumph for the character considering that it stays the truest to Stoker’s 1897 novel. Aladdin” would be winning Academy Awards in other categories, and I can’t imagine many were hoping to make a Steven Seagal action movie like “Under Siege” an Oscar winner. This UHD disc improves on the already handsome Blu-ray presentation of the film in the anticipated ways: Colors are brighter and more densely saturated, clarity of fine detail more evident, and black levels deeper and darker. Despite the fact that the now-renowned actor was far from enamoured by the idea of playing Dracula, like anyone at the time - not least a Brit trying to make his way in Hollywood - the mere opportunity to be in Francis Ford Coppola film, let alone star in it, was more than enough reason to commit his heart and soul. As a whole, this is one hell of a great-looking disc, and those who haven't picked up this film on 4K are in for a treat. But even those with setups that support only HDR10 will still enjoy a tremendous image with incredible details, beautiful bold colors, and as I said earlier proper subtitle font. But the biggest praise at the time came from Hal Hinson in The Washington Post, who declared, “It is Coppola’s most lavish and, certainly, his most flamboyant film; never before has he allowed himself this kind of mad experimentation.

One of my favorite sound schemes revolves around Dracula’s brides and their lustful whispers and how those voices move about the soundscape. One moment, we hear the story told from Jonathon Harker’s perspective like his trip to Transylvania and escape from Castle Dracula. After already enjoying an excellent release, Bram Stoker’s Dracula celebrates its 30th Anniversary with a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release offering up the same excellent transfer now with Dolby Vision HDR, Atmos audio, and a terrific assortment of bonus features in a classy SteelBook. The costumes, the makeup, the creature design the set design, and the incredible visual effects were stunning.Similarly, in Sound Effects Editing, the other two nominees “Aladdin” and “Under Siege” didn’t pose much of a threat. Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times said, “The movie is an exercise in feverish excess, and for that if for little else, I enjoyed it.
