About this deal

The elderly Helena Lanark now lives in a luxurious care home. She is the heiress of an immense family fortune and holds on to a dark secret of the horror which once occurred within the Lanark family house. As the investigation and search for answers intensifies, Jane travels to Australia. There she discovers the dark secret, that the Lanark family has kept hidden for decades. A secret, that not only threatens to bring down a family dynasty, but also places Jane Tennison in mortal danger . . . I have mixed thoughts on this book. I didn’t dislike it but I definitely didn’t enjoy it. The suspect plot line felt so all over the place and the romance subplot was questionable at best. Personally, i felt there was a lot of useless information about the house renovation, I get having sub plots but man, that was boring. She dipped in and out of screenwriting and acting, best known for her magnificent work on the Prime Suspect televisions series. Lynda has a strong focus on crime and thriller, as she discovered when she wrote her first series for Thames Television, Widows, in 1983. After this turning point in her life, Lynda signed her first book-deal with Pan MacMillan, who helped her publish her very first novel, The Legacy, in 1987.

Then Jane’s partner Eddie was weird. I had no idea what he actually looked like as it was never said so I had to make something up in my head - felt very strange - and he just didn’t seem like a good bloke for someone who’s a good detective - I mean, read the red flags! As the investigation and search for answers intensifies, Jane travels to Australia. There she discovers the dark secret that the Lanark family has kept hidden for decades. A secret that not only threatens to bring down a family dynasty, but also places Jane Tennison in mortal danger . . .Then the large dog howls along to the tune for a few seconds, letting out one big bellow to finish it off. We have a swap letterbox library locally as the public library has been closed due to Covid. I borrowed one of your books Lynda called Blind Fury is was great having never read your books before I am hooked, just finished reading Unholy Murder that was fantastic. My next is Blunt Force keep up the great writing. Reply Speaking of, since when is it ok to discuss the minutiae of your case with non police, Jane? Extremely unprofessional, and for an obnoxious, overbearing, pompous character like our “heroine”, I would have expected professionalism. How is a main character so awful?? Genuine question because I as the reader should surely be on her side? But she is impatient, irritable, downright rude a lot of the time, pompous, judgemental, and snobby. I don’t think I’ve ever read a character I disliked as much. This Morning viewers were left divided by the talent on the show earlier this morning, despite it impressing presenters. Rochelle Humes and Andi Peters returned to the ITV programme today [August 17] to speak with best-selling author Lynda La Plante about her brand new book, Dark Rooms . But then he gets interrupted by Rochelle who insists, "He sings, I don't think we can call it howl. He's an operatic singer."

I've read all the books in this series so far and really enjoyed them but there is something about this particular book that is just 'off' for want of a better word. One of the cases that she is working on, that involves the murder of a quiet woman (there seems to be no motive that they can find), turns out it is linked to James Langton’s. She is now the gang’s next target. When Does The Next Lynda La Plante book come out? I have to say that I’ve become totally addicted to Lynda La Plante’s novels. As a retired police officer myself, I can say that she explores and provides in-depth knowledge of police and forensic procedure to a really high level, and that alone is very impressive considering she was never actually a serving police office herself. Her research is obviously incredibly thorough. I always wait with bated breath, her new novels. Well done, Lynda! You’re certainly one of the finest!!! Reply I have lived in China for the past 2O years,so getting English novels is not easy, although found odd ones on the internet here. So,my sister posts some to me,probably buys in Waterstones. Last year she sent a couple of your books, this year a couple more, including WIDOWS REVENGE,but this is the second one in the series,so cannot read it yet I am now hooked on them, have you any idea where they are available here. I am a 77 year old avid reader with a Chinese wife.I am preparing a new list to send to her, but if you have any idea where they may be available in China, would be great. I live in Suzhou City, about 60 miles inland from Shanghai. Reply Ok, it wasn't annoying, so that's great. But the main character was do boring. And also drinks a lot! I mean, really a lot on a daily basis. A little bit funny when she goes on a rant about cannabis when she is basically a high functioning alcoholic herself.Jane Tennison herself was an extremely unlikable character and i often found myself frustrated with how she treated practically everyone around her.

Clean Cut: This is the third novel in the “Anna Travis” series and was released in the year 2007. James Langton is hunting some illegal immigrants who killed a young prostitute; he is ruthless in his search for them. One of the immigrants almost kills him, and Anna bears most of the frustrations he has and helps get his wounds healing. All the while, she puts her own career, not to mention life, on hold for him. But, when he finally gets what he’s yearned for all these years, a political scandal erupts around him and he is shunned into the shadows once again with no shred of a positive reputation left. Sir William Benedict is left with no choice but to exact revenge on those who have sabotaged his dreams…and Justin Chalmers and his sister Laura are about to discover just how dark revenge can be when exacted by a man who has nothing left. What Kind of Awards has La Plante Earned? For those readers looking to get into novels by Lynda La Plante, this section will help with that. It will go over the novels “Above Suspicion”, “The Red Dahlia”, and “Clean Cut”. Also, new - renovation porn. I doubt though it can turn out well without some general idea, it sounds a bit all over the place. Jane Tennison is leading a murder investigation into the recent brutal death of a young girl, her decomposed starved body discovered in an old air raid shelter in the garden of the Lanark's now derelict house. Initially the focus is on identifying the victim, until another body is found, hidden in the walls of the shelter.

I really had an issue with the Jason Thorpe character, particularly at the end as the events reached their anti climactic climax. He is portrayed throughout as a sort of brutish, somewhat threatening thug, with his own successful business but almost certainly a fair amount of dodgy dealings in both that and the affairs of his aunt/the house. Then at the climactic ending his character is completely switched up and he’s suddenly some kind of simpleton we should pity? It’s absolutely bizarre. As the investigation and search for answers intensifies, Jane travels to Australia. There she discovers the dark secret that the Lanark family has kept hidden for decades. A secret that not only threatens to bring down a family dynasty, but also places Jane Tennison in mortal danger... The brief storyline with the weed was so so so unneeded and began with ooh whats Eddie hiding and ended abruptly a chapter later, why? Lynda explains that Hugo first began singing whilst watching the Gilded Cage and can "actually do different levels" - plus he even sings to adverts. What I liked was a different style of telling the story, I'm a bit tired of all the same contemporary unreliable narrators in every mystery novel these days, so, a solid person was so refreshing.
