Joseph, Matt. "Tyler Perry To Play Alex Cross Again In Double Cross". We Got This Covered.com . Retrieved October 18, 2012.

Behind all the noise and the numbers, we shouldn't forget that no one gets this big without amazing natural storytelling talent—which is what James Patterson has, in spades. The Alex Cross series proves it. Lee ChildWell, truth is I'm glad I did. At the end of Cross My Heart, the 21st in the series, Cross had lost his entire family to kidnappings by a demented killer. That scenario is continued here as he works nonstop to find them (hopefully alive); and as might be expected, the tension gets hot and heavy. In fact, if I have a complaint, it's that the drama "crosses" the line of excessive - but even that really didn't take away that nonstop, edge-of-the-seat excitement. My thoughts: I love James Patterson’s books and the Alex Cross series is definitely a favorite. But, as we all know, the books can be hit or miss…but let me just say, this one was definitely a hit! This was one of the best Alex Cross books I’ve read and it reminded me of why I fell in love with this series in the first place. James Patterson is the gold standard by which all others are judged. Along Came a Spider (1993, title from line in " Little Miss Muffet"): In the first novel of the series, Gary Soneji poses as a math teacher and kidnaps Maggie Rose Dunne, daughter of famed actress Katherine Dunne, and her best friend.

To Mr. Patterson and publishers: The action and interplay among the characters is wonderful, yet I can no longer see past the concept. Killers continue to stalk the stalker and his family with a predictable outcome. I have the sense that the 21st and 22nd installments of this successful series are more about profit than passion.Patterson boils a scene down to the single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along. It's what fires off the movie projector in the reader's mind. MICHAEL CONNELLY In 2001, the novel was adapted into a film starring Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross, Monica Potter as Jezzie Flannigan, and Michael Wincott as Soneji. Trumbore, Dave. "Tyler Perry and James Patterson Finalize Deal for ALEX CROSS Sequel, DOUBLE CROSS". Collider . Retrieved October 17, 2012. Patterson begins one chapter by describing “three birches that grew close together”. Hello, that is how birches are, planted three together, which everyone already knows. In that same chapter he says, “the dog went to the stove and lay down by the stove”. I didn’t think he went to the stove and lay down by the TV! In one chapter he tells us the alias used by the antagonist has shown up seven times in a internet search, a few chapters later he tells us this again. HOPE TO DIE is full of surprising revelations, twists and turns, as well as heart-stopping suspense and sharp-edged violence."

Hope to Die draws its plot from the conflict between detective Alex Cross and doctor Marcus Sunday. The vendetta that drives the plot stems from a deontological Mulch wants Cross to detour from his ethical schema and devoid himself from any system of value that may render him vulnerable to emotional connections. Alex Cross] has become one of the greatest fictional detectives of all time, a character for the ages. Before they can even start searching for where the five might be held, though, another blow hits Alex: a mutilated body is found, unidentifiable, but a body that looks like his beloved Bree, her build, her clothing, her jewellery. And then another, again unidentifiable, but resembling his eldest, Damon. And demands from Mulch, a heinous deed to be committed if Alex is ever to see the rest of his family alive. A new book is scheduled for the end of the year, so feel free to race through Deadly Cross with as much zeal as it calls for — you won’t be without Alex Cross for long. This rating also comes after reading, and being quite annoyed with, the previous book in the series, Cross My Heart. It was good, but the cliffhanger of an ending, as I said at the time, so reeked of promotion for this one that I almost vowed on principle not to read the follow-up. HOPE TO DIE, the newly published novel in the Cross canon, begins immediately after 2013’s CROSS MY HEART. That worthy book featured Thierry Mulch, an adversary as frightening and dangerous as any that Cross has ever faced. While other criminals have threatened his family before, none have done so with the effectiveness and cold-blooded intent of Mulch. CROSS MY HEART chronicled Mulch’s success in abducting Cross’ entire family --- all three generations of it --- and taunting him with a photograph that purported to show their dead bodies.
