He decides to 'beef up' as he is fed up of being called a wimp, so he does this. Can he change though? Write in-role to explore and develop an understanding of character: By writing from the perspective of the characters, students will gain a deeper empathy for them and a more nuanced understanding of their motivations and emotions. I like the colourful illustrations in the book, but I found them quite stereotypical in the clothes that Willy and the gang were wearing. I think it is a positive example of how you can increase your confidence and become happy with yourself. It is up to you to make the changes, to get fitter and feel happier in your own skin.If "Gorilla" (1983) was the book which made Browne's name as the artist to draw gorilla's, " Willy the Wimp " introduced us to his alter ego - "a chimpanzee living in a world of gorillas" according to Browne. Not a difficult relationship for children to identify with - the classic gorilla barging Willy off the pavement, the bully, the bodybuilder. A feature of Anthony Browne’s work is that although the characters are depicted in almost naturalistic style, “in all styles we can only interpret faces with certainty as positive, negative or neutral in affect, with more subtle readings dependent on contextual and intermodal guidance. (Tian, 2011.) often contain narrative framing devices (e.g., stories within stories, characters reading about their own fictional lives)

The illustrations in this book are good and funny and show the story well. Some of the illustrations do look a bit silly though such as the gorillas, who are body building. They look so silly that it made me laugh. The gorilla took Hannah to see the orang-utan,and a chimpanzee. She thought they werebeautiful. But sad. They both crept downstairs, and Hannah put onher coat. The gorilla punt on her father’s hat andcoat. “A perfect fit,” he whispered. Through this story, I was questioning a few things such as why is the father not talking to his child throughout the beginning book and where is the child’s mother. I was also wondering what the fathers job is as he works when the child is at school and he works at home. I was also wondering what happened at one section of the story as the child didn’t really have dinner it went from her sitting in her room to her then waking up after the dream I felt there was a chunk of the story missing and that there was more that was needing to be said. In the middle of the night, Hannah woke upand saw a very small parcel at the foot of thebed. It was a gorilla, but it was just a toy.Gorilla' is a short story about Hannah, a young girl who is obsessed with all things gorilla. The story implies that Hannah is from a single-parent family (although this is not mentioned explicitly) and whose father is always busy because of how hard he works. I don't want to spoil the story for you (because even as an adult, it's still a wonderful narrative), but Browne explores Hannah's fellings of loneliness, rejection and disappointment in the first part of the text. The second part of the text consists of a wonderful fantasy- classic childhood adventure material. The final part of the book is a happy ending of love and contentment. However on the eve of her birthday something peculiar happens… She awakens to discover a gigantic gorilla at the end of her bed! Thus, beginning a magical adventure, the pair embark on trips to the zoo and cinema. Look at photos of different primates and draw your own pictures of some of them. You could also look at video footage of gorillas and other primates. For example:
