About this deal

An embedded workbook with 300+ grammar exercises: Challenge yourself and reinforce your comprehension by doing the exercises after each lesson. Each section in the guide seeks to answer a specific grammar question and provides step-by-step analysis and examples to clarify complex concepts.

Whilst I like the approach of the book and I think the exercises are well thought out and the chapters are well structured, it is quite annoying to find that the book has not been properly proofread before publication. Not only will it give you the key to understanding all the rules of French grammar, but it may afford you many opportunities to practice those rules and gain confidence.

As well as advanced grammar, this book contains an entire list of useful French vocabulary and language examples. All the answers are included at the back of the book, and don’t forget our matching French Grammar Handbook for concise, helpful notes on every topic. As the title indicates, this book focuses on helping you improve your French writing skills, but it also includes excellent grammar explanations, with an emphasis on verbs and vocabulary. My Frech Grammar has definitely improved as a result of reading this book and I will continue to be my go to resource in the future, when I need a refresher on any specific French grammar points.

Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections—they may also appear in recommendations and other places. All the examples given fit into the context of the story so they will be easier and quicker for you to understand and you'll be able to concentrate on the grammar. In fact, my recommendation would be to make this book your French course and have an online teacher walk you through it private lessons.

The book (as well as the accompanying digital material) focuses on helping you improve your speaking and listening skills — not just your writing and reading. In this post I review my collection of grammar books and for each title I’ll answer whether or not I’d recommend it to my students. If you’re less interested in pure grammar lessons and rules, and more motivated by how you will use French in real life, this might be the best French grammar book for you. I recently started an intensive French language course and although total immersion in the language is perhaps the best way to learn, sometimes you also need a bit of help in understanding the nuances and complexities of grammar. By using texts that contain grammar as their key focus, you can really take the time to learn the complex rules and begin to understand how they function in the real world. There are actually four Grammaire essentielle du français books you can choose from, according to your level: complete beginner, beginner, intermediate or advanced. I have found that this book and others in the series are a fantastic compliment to the total immersion course that I am currently studying as I am able to apply the complexities of grammar far more easily. Each chapter does a great job presenting the information and then following up with example sentences and exercises.
