About this deal

I purchased this book for my 10-year-old stepdaughter after getting her the mood journal from Fearne Cotton as well. I realised that I share some of her personality traits and wonder if certain personalities are just more prone to feeling more deeply and being affected by the things around them. It also highlighted the importance of a happy mind and body and the harmony of this connection, as well as celebrating the uniqueness of each individual.

I'm sure some readers would find value if they have never come across some of the ideas being discussed in the book but for me it was just a regurgitation of theories from elsewhere and general feelings. So, I was interested to read her book Happy and see if she could shed some light on happiness and confidence. Once part of the book seems to imply that helping out a stranger or smiling at people would help get you out of a depressive state. For many of us, life can feel like it's moving too fast with pressure bearing down on us from all sides - whether that's from school or work, family or social media. I recived it today and I am already on chapter 5 and do not want to put it down but also I dont want to finish it in one day because I'm enjoying it!

Activist and broadcaster Emma Dabiri’s academic work critiques the image-conscious society we live in. But in saying all the above, if this book brings solace or encourages someone to change something for the better, who am I to dismiss it. There are a lot of topics that Fearne talks about in this book but, for me, the biggest aspect that I took out of this was not to hurry through life.

The claim that it's about depression is deceiving: the advice given by Cotton Fearne is to eat healthy, sleep enough, look after your appearance because it has an impact on your mood, journal, be creative. They also talk about why acknowledgement and acceptance are big parts of moving forward from your current difficult situation. There are some amazing tips for dealing with life and it’s hardships, coping mechanisms for when it’s all still to much and all with a very positive vibe.It is sad to hear that Fearne struggled through some periods of low mood, but I don't think this book should be aimed at depressives.

This was also the premise for her podcast launched in 2018, Happy Place, and has featured an array of guest such as Ellie Golding, Hilary Rodham Clinton, Jada Pinkett Smith, Gary Barlow, Alicia Keys, and Elizabeth Gilbert amongst others. You need to do all the work if you want to see an outcome and benefit from this book, which I think is the best approach for achieving happiness. Now in my thirties and finally over my insane crush on Danny from Mcfly 🙈😂 I was able to open my mind and read the first of Fearnes incredible works. Overall I think this book is a perfect starting point, especially for a more modern younger generation as it covers more apt topics such as social media, comparison, and friendship groups moving on. I suppose the same is true for me in relation to noise as I grew up in such an idyllic and quiet environment I feel on edge around constant disturbing noises.
