About this deal

I don't read a lot of YA anymore and there were a lot of situations in this book that reminded me why I don't, but despite that, I liked Wes and Maeve's relationship and there was a lot of cuteness. I see myself reading this simply because it had the brother’s rival trope and it’s one of my favorites.

This book reminded me of the Off-Campus series, but much milder sex scenes - which really isn’t a bad thing at all! Anyway aside from that it was a feel good romance book with the main characters getting their happily ever after.Maeve- daughter to the home team’s football coach AND twin sister to Liam, their home team’s starting quarterback; double whammy! Her success was so overly looked, she won, she played she was involved and they overlooked her like she was nothing. And this is a very different take on several old tropes; Coaches daughter, secret girlfriend and enemies to lovers. As abruptly as it ended, with Maeve and Wes standing in solidarity, that it's their love and nothing should come between them, I would have liked to have seen what the reaction would have been for their schools in the future, as well - if they would be as accepting and forgiving as they thought they would be. I didn’t love the miscommunication/ third act break up, but then I had to remind myself that the MCs are in high school and what happened can be quite realistic.

Like the heroine's twin-brother, who really expected her life to revolve around HIS high-school football career and not her happiness. The storyline didn’t need pages of intimacy being described as the character building was so good throughout, it was clear what was happening but easily brushed over.I felt like she had more commitment and dedication to their relationship, while Wes was just: there.

I feel this could be a sister movie to She's The Man which was adapted from my favourite play Twelfth Night.

There were SO many times where super awkward word choices were used here that reminded me of that scene. I don't usually like to read high school romance anymore cause I'm past that stage, but this one surprised me!

I mean, yes, I knew what was going to happen all along, but jeez, I had no right being this entertained while reading about some small town football rivalry.but a steady 4⭐️ because the romance, their secret dates, the longing, the everything between them was perfect. Sometimes, I felt like the rivalry between the two towns was a little overplayed--because surely, there isn't anything really like that--but I wasn't born and raised in a small town--so maybe it is. Yes, sometimes, on occasion, you will find me reading a M/F book, like Kiss Now, Lie Later - no judgments, please. If my feelings for Maeve have taught me anything, it’s that sometimes you love the people you shouldn’t. Maeve and Wes meet and the attraction starts their, even though they know of the disappointment and anger they would face from their rivaling towns.
