If you fail to comply with this obligation, we may have a right of action against you for compensation. I would like to thank Netgalley and Farrago Books for an advance copy of Death at the Chateau, the third novel in the Follet Valley Mystery series featuring Richard Ainsworth, owner of an upmarket chambre d’hôte and Valérie dOrçay, former spy and perhaps assassin who are now working together in a newly formed security company.

A great summer read so, grab your cheese board, your grapes, sunglasses go and escape for a little while to the villages of France. When a series of mysterious events unfold around the renowned cheese-producing town of Gaillard, Monsieur Pamplemousse finds himself entangled in a peculiar case involving stolen cheese, unexplained deaths, and a web of intrigue. I love this wonderful series and its laughing out loud wacky situations, its delightful quirkiness full of goofy slapstick and delicious verbal pyrotechnics, and last but not least its screwy cast of characters, peacocks and hens included. There were a lot of side characters who we get introduced to very quickly which did make it confusing to remember them all. The mystery is very much a cozy afternoon read with the real point of the book being the lighthearted humour. It's not for you if you enjoy the darker gruesome crime thrillers but it's a wonderful cosy mystery series. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Richard and Valérie’s fledgling Follet Valley-based private investigation company has a new job — security and bodyguard duties for a Hollywood production and one of its stars, filming in the nearby Chateau de Valençay. On a typical computer running Windows, you first need to install an ebook-reading program, such as Adobe Digital Editions. The “will they, won’t they” relationship between the main characters continues, and I’m hopeful for how this will progress in the next book! It is finely paced, truly funny and written with a wry detachment that conjures up a gentler age of murder mystery' * The Times * 'Bloody and funny. Book 2: "Death and Croissants": The second book finds Monsieur Pamplemousse and Pommes Frites embarking on a journey to the bucolic French countryside. The film set is full of over the top actors , a stalker and all the over inflated egos which are involved in the production of a film. I'd recommend Death at the Chateau to any reader who enjoys humorous, action-packed "cosy" mysteries, especially those who enjoy European settings and plenty of cinematic references.

Death at the Chateau is a rip-roaring read, with a great balance of British-style humour, character hi-jinks and intriguing plot twists. The ebook(s) will then appear on your Kindle device (or Kindle app) after a few minutes, assuming the device is connected to wifi. Richard still owns a boutique hotel, still loves classic movies, hates IMPD, talks to his beloved flock of chickens, and tries to avoid his "competitors". I have read all of the Follet Valley books and have enjoyed them all immensely, however if I have one complaint it is that this book was not as laugh out loud funny as the others hence the 4 star only this time. And my only word of warning to those who haven't read these mysteries (and anyone needing a lift in life owes it to themselves to do so!

But then an extra, who is 102 years old (a bit lived already) has a heart attack while playing Napoleon in close-ups from behind. This is another fun addition to the series with old characters continuing to grow and shine and a fresh new cast of would-be victims and murderers. Fun quirky characters with a mix of both French and English ex-pats with a good dollop of Hollywood thrown in the mix.I thoroughly enjoyed Death at the Chateau, which is a lighthearted romp in the Loire region with a good mystery attached. The goods do not need to be in their original packaging however in a sellable condition, and at your own cost and risk.
