Compression artifacts are never a problem, even in the film’s many darker scenes, and it’s really hard to complain about the way that the movie looks on this UHD. With six brand-new featurettes, a new feature-length audio commentary, and a restoration overseen by cinematographer Jan de Bont, today might just be a great day to die.

Challenging Nelson for both the leadership and the girl is Labraccio, played by the always-watchable Kevin Bacon ( Tremors). This doesn't necessarily diminish the plot but is able to offer up some truly horrific images and scenarios, mainly for Nelson and Rachel. Where the remake had the flatliners in an actual hospital, separating the day-to-day life and the night time adventures just to create an atmosphere, like a stage performance. Had one of their friends failed to resuscitate and the others were forced to continue the trips to bring him back, that would have been a stronger dynamic. We will introduce you exclusively to Newpay finance products provided by NewDay Limited under this Introducer Appointed Representative arrangement. Written and directed by Wong Jing, 1986’s Magic Crystal stars Andy Lau as Andy and Wong Jing himself as Pancho, two freelance special agents that wind up being hired by the Hong. Joel Schumacher’s sure-handed direction gives the film a unique quality that the other ghostly-themed films released in that era don’t really have.

Flatliners arrives on UHD from Arrow Video on a 100GB disc in a 4k transfer of the original 35mm negative framed at 2. Mixed with the current nostalgia we're all experiencing for that time period, Flatliners is the (rather tame) psychological thriller horror of that era that tries to answer the question while warning off any further investigation.Roberts is the pretty smart girl, no stretch for her there, though there are some scenes where she rises above and creates some decent character here. If you don’t own it and you’re a fan, picking up either the Blu-ray or 4K UHD edition is likely a choice you made once you learned of this remaster’s existence.

Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt as aspiring yet daring medical students commiting reckless experiments with death create likable, fairly three-dimensional characters in what essentially amounts to B-grade material with no apparent condescension or irony. Joshua Rudoy ( Harry and the Hendersons), who plays the haunting figure of Billy Mahoney, has little more to do than look either terrified or terrifying and handles both really well.

Restoration – Production designer Eugenio Zanetti and art director Larry Lundy give us some insight into the visual look and feel of Flatliners. The commentary ends up being at its best when the two touch on subjects like this and the period it comes from, the Hollywood of the ‘90’s where bidding wars for high concept spec scripts like Flatliners broke out all too often and high concept films were simply the norm. Part of the reason for that could be related to the film being a “forgotbuster,” a term coined by Nathan Rabin for The Dissolve and mentioned here in the included audio commentary featuring critics Bryan Reesman and Max Evry, the term meaning that despite the film being a success it has largely been forgotten and is rarely, if ever, brought up in film circles.

Film critics Bryan Reesman and Max Evry deliver an engaging and informative audio commentary filled with a steady stream of production stories, trivia and behind-the-scenes information. Despite its success at the time of release Flatliners has oddly never received anything remotely close to a “special edition” on DVD or Blu-ray, with Arrow not stepping in to fill the gap. There are enough quiet moments between the two male leads to make this feel like a real friendship being stressed by a love triangle and the film is stronger for it. Plenty has been written about Flatliners in its 32 years of wide release, but one thing stands out that I’d like to address first: it’s not as scary as one might expect. label Mill Creek Entertainment has announced that it will release a special SteelBook edition of Joel Schumacher's thriller Flatliners (1990), starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, and Oliver Platt. To do this, Nelson convinces the other four to kill him but then to bring him back immediately after via resuscitation. The inspiration for the story, touched on in the commentary, comes from the term “accountability” being thrown around during the Iran-Contra scandal, and his friend dying for 15-seconds (in the commentary Reesman and Eyer mention his friends was actually dead for a minute-and-fifteen seconds and that it was from an allergic reaction to anesthesia). Lastly, Dressing For Character is a new interview with costume designer Susan Becker running just over six minutes that reviews how she came on board the project and what she brought to the film with her costuming work and choices.
