EDIT-7/17/2012 In the midst of this dreadful HEAT of this summer, drought and general malaise, Ultramarine works just fine. I was looking for an unusual, summery fragrance that would beat BVLGARI AQUA and make me smile and I need to keep looking. I dislike aquatics, not because I dislike the general concept of smelling like cool sea water on flowery tropical air, but because most aquatic fragrances come nowhere close to smelling like that. This is a '90s fragrance, with all the bells and whistles that came with aromatic scents of that decade.

Now I know a thing or two about fragrances and if I take one good look at the pyramid, I can tell that this is most defenitely not for me. From breezy fresh to roguish spice, French luxury house Givenchy has a classic to fit every mood and occasion. Insense Ultramarine is unfortunately overshadowed by the original Insense (which sits in the throne of the "discontinued rarities kingdom"). The salty marine accord that spikes its top and middle notes is boldly pronounced against a dense and palatable mélange of fruit and flowers.

I'm not a big fan of marine perfumes to start with, but this definitely will make into top 10 of worst perfumes I ever bought. I have the feeling of a summer evening wind from the sea embellished with fine fruits, maybe the aroma from nice fruity cocktails in a beach bar, fresh, vivid and playful, is the DNA of this juice. Insense Ultramarine was launched in 1995 by design house Givenchy as an aromatic fruity fragrance for men. This stuff reminds me of Ibiza Circa 1995 and all of the beautiful nightlife and Eurodance music from the little island known as the gem of the Mediterranean. C'mon they are not that far apart guys, it has the same DNA but with a cheap 90s synthetic aquatic overlay that ruins it completely.I think that I might get it again but there was something… AVON in the 80’s about it that I don’t know for sure if I like. After 30 minutes, you're left with what smells faintly "blue", the sort of airy-ness and oceanic mix that some people describe it as on here. Whether you're attending a formal event, embarking on a spontaneous adventure, or simply making a powerful statement in everyday life, this fragrance will effortlessly enhance your charisma and allure. It is not easy to tell this scent, in some ways is similar to Iceberg pour homme (at least 18 years ago), but has a freshness Insensé Ultramarine up: and here the mint does an excellent job, but the freshness would be nothing if the bottom lush not accommodate. But like kenzo pour homme you have to wait for a little bit to realize the quality of this fragrance.

One thing I will give it though, for this type of fresh fragrance it does seem to have some good staying power, so that's something. Weirdly enough, I saw an ad or an article about this perfume not long ago in a fashion magazine, and it has an insane popularity in my country. It is banal, offensive in an inoffensive way and worst of all, new editions keep popping with progressively uninspired names like Insense Blue Laser, Blue Sky, Ice Cube, Sport and Beach Boy. It is seductive, dynamic and full of unbridled energy, made for days full of adventure, and not just at sea.There is a tinge of watermelon, but it isn't too intrusive, and the calone is heavily disguised by the florals and vetiver. It seems like there’s a lot going on, too much and overloads the scenes, after a while it does calm down. Its great to put in your gym bag, car arm rest or work draw for a hot summers day when you need a refresh if you like clean florals. It is so maturely fresh and sharp, and the sharpness stays hours on my skin (even longer on fabric).
