About this deal

I recommend this whole-heartedly to anyone who enjoys to read but especially to comics fans who've not picked this up yet. The end result is a highly stylized, gripping, fun, and compelling version of this tale - redesigned and told through the mind's eye of one of today's undeniable leaders in the field of graphic story telling. Realizing Miller's unhappiness with the series, and impressed by a backup story Miller had written, O'Neil moved McKenzie to another project so that Miller could try writing the series himself.

Lines are as spartan-like as they should be: "το λακωνίζειν εστί φιλοσοφείν" (talk as less as you can to be wise) is the moto of these soldiers that fear nothing, even death himself. It is impossible to know for certain whether this change in policy regarding the Carneia was based in shame about missing Marathon (as Brin suggests) or merely marked a reinterpretation of the military threat posed by the invading Persians. Paired with his current colouring collaborator on his DC projects Alex Sinclair, Miller’s art has the heavy shadows and visceral splashes of red that are prevalent in his most recent work. The 1980 Annual featured a team-up with Doctor Strange [28] while the 1981 Annual showcased a meeting with the Punisher.

When I first showed up in New York, I showed up with a bunch of comics, a bunch of samples, of guys in trench coats and old cars and such. I both applaud Frank Miller's creative adaptation and highly recommend this book to all who can handle a gritty, blood and guts retelling of perhaps the greatest battle man has ever fought. The relationship between King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo is minimised from an equal partnership of badassery in the film, to Gorgo being little but a badly drawn 'big-boobed wifey' with a single scene, about three lines and no hand in the political intrigue. Because its mature content was inappropriate for children, it was published by Marvel's Epic Comics imprint.Titled Batman: Year One, this was Miller's version of the origin of Batman in which he retconned many details and adapted the story to fit his Dark Knight continuity. The costume designs are symbolic rather than historic, and each heavy cape and bronze sword is used to full effect. If you think about it, when you’re taking in a vista, if you’re looking at new territory or enjoying a view, your eyes move from side to side, not up and down.
