About this deal

Michael Korea has been a must read author for me for quite a while, and this new one is another validation of that rating.

At the same time, he becomes aware of a green Mercedes Benz (see the cover) that is regularly acting suspiciously in his neighbourhood. I'm not sure I ever recovered from the gut-punching angst that was London Spy, but sure, I figured let's give 1989 yearning and secrecy a try. He is having bisexual yearnings but has had most experience with his friend Maike Eillert who is part of a group of teenagers with whom he socialises. Nonethelss, ss well as a poignant love story, this novel is also a compelling, original thriller; with a not so predictable final twist that sets a powerful climax in motion just as the Wall comes down. But these stories are filled with so many twists and surprises that they give a fascinating new perspective on this vibrant capital.

Lyman Rankin is a 12 year old boy who is a victim of an alcoholic father and stumbles into the same mystery. After discovering seven men murdered aboard their yacht – including two Senate rivals – Israel Pike is regarded as a prime suspect. He has written series and standalones, thrillers, paranormal, and domestic suspense but there are common connections to be found within his novels—regardless of style—for those longing for patterns. The author made Israel Pike and the child he befriended very sympathetic as they were fighting the establishment government of the hometown island. At the beginning of this superb thriller from Edgar winner Koryta ( Those Who Wish Me Dead), recently paroled killer Israel Pike discovers seven murdered men on a yacht adrift near the small island of Salvation Point, Maine. La intriga también está bien articulada de manera que no sabes por donde van a salir los tiros, cosa que se agradece. His narrative is sensuous, as he always seem to loose himself in the bodies of those around him (noting the way the light illuminates someone's hair or face). Running parallel to Israel’s plight is another narrative which will be tied to the overall plot well before things are wrapped up.

Perhaps this is due to the fact that Israel just got released from a 15-year prison stint on a manslaughter rap. Diogenes invented the word, cosmopolitan, a dweller in the world and that ultimately is Raif's quest as he begins to live in the world of adults and find his way through a labyrinth of fake news and relative truths towards a dark centre. The author here obviously has a thing for Berlin geography, geology and history as the detail around all of these areas is spot on. I highly recommend this for an audiobook, the narration was great, voice were good and the story was pretty unique. The atmosphere in Berlin during the years of its isolation was marked by a curious blend of an almost suffocatingly supportive environment (from the West German government and the Allies) and lingering real awareness of the Stasi activities of East Germany and West German and allied responses.
