When my friend Ric told me that Bob Ross: The Art of Chill was one of his top 5 games of 2017, I struggled to take him seriously. Yet there’s also a number of other game play elements that make it unique and tie it very well to the Bob Ross painting theme.

Yet after a few plays, I realized that while the game is having fun with its inspiration, it really has a solid set of mechanics underneath. Forrest-Pruzan Creative is one of those new companies, and they have a number of different imprints.The only unique thing this game really brings to the table would be the squirrel-based voting tokens, but you certainly could come up with another way to vote without using the tokens. For less serious gamers or for a game that you just want to break out and have a good time with, however, without the hassle of learning too many rules or for much younger players, you could do a lot worse than checking out the charmingly packaged Happy Little Accidents. You also get a teeny pad of paper (I’ve played the game about eight total times and it’s already run out) along with a deck of cards with the topic suggestions. The game can be explained in seconds, and even those who feel they don’t have a creative bone in their body can have a good time. Take one of the large double-sided painting cards, place it on the easel, and place Bob on the first space on the painting track.

This takes a lot of planning – and is made more complicated by the fact that you cannot “un-mix” cards played to a side of your palette. The set-collection aspect of the game and the short time to play also add to the game’s draw for getting it to the table. The components are wonderful and there are several excellent touches even to the packaging design – with paints and tools shown on the inside of the box lid.
