About this deal

He was able to see the beauty of the dark night, his fear vanished and from that day onward he never gave up on his dream of becoming an astronaut himself! With spectacular colour illustrations by top team, The Fan Brothers, this gorgeous picture book offers both reassurance and a thrilling ride through space. In the story, Chris realises that you’re never really alone because your dreams are always there with you. I also think this book might do more to make a child afraid of the dark, than help eradicate the fear. His work is a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques, using ink or graphite mixed with digital.

When he watched real life astronauts walking and jumping on the moon, it gave him a new perspective to night time and darkness. The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield is by some distance the most inspirational children’s book I’ve reviewed. He attended the Ontario College of Art and Design where he studied illustration, sculpture and film. Hadfield served as Commander of the International Space Station where, while conducting a record-setting number of scientific experiments and overseeing an emergency spacewalk, he gained worldwide acclaim for his breathtaking photographs and educational videos about life in space. The first Canadian to walk in space, Hadfield has flown two Space Shuttle missions and served as commander of the International Space Station. This book is about the astronaut Chris Hadfield; including his childhood dreams of becoming an astronaut and what inspired him to be an astronaut (the moon landing).

Teaching children to face their fears; to not fear the dark for it holds much wonder and beauty; and to never give up on their dreams. His music video, a zero-gravity version of David Bowie's "Space Oddity," has nearly 50 million views, and his TED talk on fear has been viewed over 10 million times. The Darkest Dark is a children's picture book co-written by Chris Hadfield and Kate Fillion and co-illustrated by Eric Fan and Terry Fan.

Together they zoom off in their make believe spaceships made out of the bathtub or stay up reading everything about space in bed. The artwork takes us from his home to the moon and beyond in strikingly beautiful atmospheric spreads, and it’s a book to inspire children with the wonder of space and all the opportunities life holds for them. Most of them are nighttime double-page spreads, perfect for showing off the lush, dark shading, and moon, lights, and eyes that appear to really glow. Furthermore, I believe that as this is based upon a real astronauts account it may help some more reluctant readers to be drawn into the world of books and how they fit into the real world around us.

The Darkest Dark is the debut picture book by Commander Chris Hadfield, international bestselling author of An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, with spectacular illustrations by illustration team, The Fan Brothers.Written by astronaut Chris Hadfield (famous for covering David Bowie’s Space Oddity on the ISS), it is based around his childhood dreams of being an astronaut. Hadfield served as Commander of the International Space Station where, while conducting a record-breaking number of scientific experiments and overseeing an emergency spacewalk, he gained worldwide acclaim for his breathtaking photographs and educational videos about life in space. The story definitely left a lasting impression on me and I hope adults pick up this book to cherish it with their hearts as well. Perfect for young explorers, this endearing story features an adventurous dog who decides to visit the universe beyond the flat pages of his home - and 3D goggles will give the reader an even sharper focus on Ludwig's wonderful world. Chris Hadfield's books An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, You Are Here and The Darkest Dark have been bestsellers all around the world.

It’s a special feeling that somebody has gone to the effort of choosing it and it has been put together with you in mind. The way the darkness comes to life with little creatures shifting around in the shadows brought the fear of the dark to the page in a whole new way and style. That young Chris goes from fearing the dark to understanding it and therefore conquering his fear, allowing him to follow his dreams is a powerful message. Cris Hadfield, now a world-famous astronaut, was also afraid of what the dark would bring when the light in his room was flicked off. When he sees the astronauts jumping for joy, Chris decides to be an astronaut in real life, not just in his dreams. The short summary by Chris on how he became an astronaut as well as pictures from his childhood through to space link the story to real life, giving a greater depth to the experience. Un niño que tenía miedo a la oscuridad pero quería ser astronauta, y que hay más oscuro que el universo? S. Navy test pilot of the year in 1991, Hadfield was selected by the Canadian Space Agency to be an astronaut in 1992. This group of children had a real fascination with space and loved to hear the story of a real-life astronaut!
