About this deal

I’m sure for many people, that sentence alone is enough information for them to decide whether they should pick up this book (I know it was for me). The informational signs outside the Dilophosaurus exhibit state that it does not spit poison or have a neck frill. The art is great, I wasn't expecting a lot given I haven't read the author before, but it was lovely and the dinosaurs look sick. While the employees are discussing an upcoming shuffling of different exhibits, Suzume learns the guests will have access to interact with the Psittacosaurus roaming free through the park, and thinks about " Walking with Psittacos".

The art is great, and you get to see and learn about your favourite dinosaurs (if not in this volume, then maybe in one of the later ones). It was also amazing to hear the depth of collaboration between the scientific consultant and the author to get the dinosaurs and science right. Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: While the series doesn't indulge in Prehistoric Monsters and the usual tropes popularized by Jurassic Park on the idea of dinosaur zoos, it is made abundantly clear in Chapters 6 and 7, "The Ichigo Incident", that dinosaurs are still unpredictable wild animals that must be treated with caution. Suzume later acts as a surrogate parent for a baby Troodon but finds even caring for a small hatchling is really tough because of how wily, energetic, and destructive it is. It’s a little episodic/slice-of-life, so keep that in mind because I know not everyone loves that type of manga. Consuming Paleo media for the human characters is a lot like eating chocolate cake solely to satisfy your sodium intake.

EditSynopsis With their fossils being all that remained, dinosaurs were believed to be extinct due to a meteor striking the Earth long before humanity existed. The human characters are intriguing and fun, but not in a way that steals the spotlight from the dinosaurs, all of whom also have their own distinct personalities and quirks. When I first heard of this manga, I knew I had to read it—it sounded like a manga made for Jurassic Park fans! One such park is Enoshima Dinoland, as while it still has some guests and a dedicated crew, the finances are looking bleak, and parts of the park are falling into disrepair after a devesating incident shifts the public's perception on the prehistoric creatures. It shows the harsh realities of zoos as entertainment, which is actually quite typical of the book; while it is very much set in a zoo, it’s not shy to show the difficulties of keeping animals in captivity, for both the animals and the human keepers. In his mind, it's a curse – he's a samurai who can't use a steel blade, a man who can't even get a close sha. Through breeding and genetic manipulation, dinosaur populations increased and dino-mania reached a fever pitch worldwide…until a certain terrible incident occurred. At first dinosaur zoos were a huge hit, but a major, undisclosed disaster (presumably à la Jurassic Park) resulted in a loss of public interest.
