About this deal

In the lowest and middle modes (which should, in most cases, be enough) the light will last quite a lot longer. Because the use of a battery pack is often criticized, because in case of an emergency you often haven't got a spare close, Fenix added a great solution. Please note, all quoted lumen figures are from a DIY integrating sphere, and according to ANSI standards. The controls work as we are used to from Fenix: you turn it on and off by pressing the button for a mere second.

The spot and flood lighting are controlled separately and can be used individually or combined, however the spot cannot be used at the same time as the strobe or SOS.Each press after will cycle through eco, low, mid, high and turbo (in floodlight and combined settings).

When I look closer at the inside of the light I also notice how Fenix nicely puts its products together and properly finishes them. in my hand (I take XL size gloves), it is perfectly comfortable while being completely hand filling.

Since I don’t use the LR50R too often, I end up pulling up the manual every time I go to use that 2-button interface. From my experience, Fenix lights are really well designed, they use quality materials and finishes, have great constant-current drivers, and publish truthful ANSI specs. These are covered by a rubber cap, but also without this protection they are protected against water.

This is the result of the used XHP70 LED lights and the central XP-L HI V3 Led light that the LR40R is enhanced with. LR40R Included Accessories: ARB-L37-12000 Fenix rechargeable Li-ion battery pack, USB Type-C charging cable, holster, lanyard and spare o rings. A great option is that Fenix has ensured that the light also functions with one to four 18650 batteries. Fenix recommends their 18650 cells (4 ARB-L18 18650 rechargeable batteries), if you aren’t using the provided battery.

That’s certainly not all the modes (and obviously not all the combinations of flood + spot), but I think it gives a good idea of what the light will do. And since the LR40R can be seen as two separate flashlights, and the total output and throw are also rated with “both lights” on their highest setting, I also tested this way. The dimensions and the weight of the LR40R are comparable with the TK72R, even though the LR40R clearly has a broader head. I saw that for my version not all LED lights were precisely centred but fortunately I didn't see any of that in the profile of the light.
