About this deal

Science geeks will also enjoy the adventures in When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead, itself a delightful riff on A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L'Engle that deservedly won the Newbery Medal. I don't want to give away any of what occurred in the first book so let's just say Itch did a good job of disposing of the dangerous element but there was a trail of clues that he wasn't aware existed and that's what ends up leading the characters back to the place the first book ended. Itchingham “Itch” Lofte, age 14, has a hobby with unfortunate side effects—not just for himself, but for chums and schoolmates alike.

I was surprised that a kid -- yes, even Itch -- could drag around a canister of xenon in his rucksack along with all the other items he carried. Itchingham Lofte, teenage element hunter and unlikely hero, has had anough excitement to last him a lifetime. Redeemed Reader is the site I recommend most often to other parents or educators for great book reviews and articles. Fourteen-year-old Itchingham Lofte, nicknamed Itch, has an unusual passion: collecting specimens of every element in the periodic table.I love your reviews and that you also express to a potential reader, or in my case I'm a parent, any cautions you might see that would be helpful to me in knowing before I hand off a book to my child.

Instead of being appropriately cautious, he carries the radioactive clock hands ( radium) and the radioactive rocks around in his rucksack, exposing himself and the public to this health hazard. You probably know him as a radio DJ and might remember that he took over the flagship Radio One Breakfast Show from Mike Smith back in the 80's.In 2008, Mayo was recognized as the "radio broadcaster of the year" at the 34th annual Broadcasting Press Guild Awards and the "Speech Broadcaster of the Year" at the Sony Radio Academy Awards. I found Itch to be an amusing character although I could relate more with Jack, his tomboyish cousin who was more practical and streetwise. Itch, Lucy, and Tim infiltrate Greencorp's secret base and learn that an old enemy is in charge of the facility, Flowerdew. When I was given this book as a birthday present, the title and cover did not interest me initially. Perhaps in recent years you've heard him as the Drivetime DJ on Radio 2, including the excellent Radio 2 Book Club.

Itchingham Lofte, teenage element hunter and unlikely hero, has had enough excitement to last him a lifetime. Itch, his sister, and their cousin must dispose of element 126 before it falls into the wrong hands—or kills them. Overall, Itch is a great and thrilling book with an easy to read storyline that will help kids to understand elements!

Invited to be a judge to help select the shortlist for the 2013 Royal Society's Young People's Science Book Award, she also has a deep passion for good books, especially good science books, which she reviews with some regularity. There’s some mild language, but Itch’s father displays genuine Christian faith and readers who like facts will love this. Can Itch and Lucy find another way to escape or a way to distract Flowerdew so Tim can escape uncaught? Everyone's worst fear has happened- Flowerdew has stolen the rock and left Itch and his friends stranded in a city they are unfamiliar with.

Find out about farts, hearts and itchy parts in this weird and wonderful look at the body's super systems. The book was well written and easily read although a knowledge of the periodic table would be helpful. Our simple philosophy is to select engaging, imaginative and informative books that will inspire curious young minds and engender a lifelong love of reading. When half the school begins to get sick though, Itch begins to wonder if the rock is to blame for the illnesses. As in the first book, Itch, there is a lot of exciting action and I loved the way the author ended this book in such a definitive way that you know if Itch comes back, future stories will not involve an Element 126. And, utilising this winning equation, Mayo has penned his debut novel, Itch; the story of fourteen year old Itchingham Lofte who, whilst attempting to collect every element in the periodic table, comes into possession of a curious new element with world-changing potential.
