About this deal

This model is similar to the Toshiba in functionality, but testers found that rice on standard settings skewed a little too soft for their liking, and overall ranked it lower than the more affordable Tiger JBV-A10U. It’s one of the most compact models we tested, its removable lid makes it easy to clean, and the inner pot has handles for easy lifting out of the machine.

Our brown rice was chewy and firm in a way that some of us really enjoyed, but a couple of tasters in our 2020 tests found it too al dente. This is a fine option if you want a streamlined machine for basic white rice, have the counter space to spare, and are willing to trade precision for speed.

Also, I wash it by hand, and it’s usually a bit of a struggle getting in and around the lid (which you have to detach).

A good rice cooker should cook delicious, fluffy, and flavorful short- and medium-grain white rice every time. We especially love the look and feel of this sturdily built little cooker, and the included three-year guarantee.Talde grew up making rice for his parents, who worked alternating day-night shifts and expected a fresh pot of rice every day. Where available, we used the 'keep-warm' function to assess whether this was detrimental to the finished rice in any way. The slow cook time allows the machine to make precise temperature adjustment to ensure that the final product is the ideal texture and consistency. We looked forward to testing the Cuisinart FRC-1000 Rice/Grain Multicooker, which has a dazzling number of functions including sauté and pasta, but in our first rounds of testing, the rice was so gluey and poorly cooked that we didn’t bother exploring other features.

Among them are specific presets for rice and grains, slow-cooking, sauté, steam, jam/sauce and cake, plus keep-warm and delay-start settings. But the lid was too light to stay on properly; while the rice cooked, the resulting steam kept popping the lid askew. This is a straightforward machine – it cooks your rice with no bells or whistles, then keeps it warm for up to eight hours. In our tests, it made sushi and jasmine rice as delicious as what we got from some models costing three times as much. Once it switches to keep-warm, the timer counts up, so you can see how long it is since the cooking programme finished. For a household like ours that eats rice or rice-based meals on the regular, having a machine like this in our kitchen has been really helpful. Although the results weren’t as tender or well separated as what we got from the Zojirushi or the Cuckoo, this model’s rice was better than that of many other higher-end models we tested. We also tested Instant Brands’s inexpensive Instant Zest Rice and Grain Cooker (which is not a pressure cooker) in two different sizes.
