About this deal

She said that once they are on solids, and getting good milk during the day they will not need night feeding. A goodnight or settle ritual should take no more than a minute or so; the longer you take to settle, the more confusing and often stimulating for a child.

Mrs Marple thanks for sharing your story - I have heard similar ones and think in your circumstances controlled crying is a totally valid approach. Grab a copy of my new book 7pm to 7am Sleeping Baby Routine – a complete guide to the newborn stage and beyond. You will need to wind your baby more frequently than commonly thought, every 5 or so minutes when breastfeeding and ½ -1oz if bottle feeding. But I think for a bf baby 4 months is a bit early; even at 6 months bf babies may wake several times in the night genuinely hungry.Over all, there is some good advice, but most of all I do not agree with many of the things she is teaching. I think he then got more hungry (more active etc) but we didn't wean until 6mo so he was awake once, sometimes twice, for a feed again. un libro che insegna ad instaurare delle routine per bambini piccoli, perciò se cercate un aiuto per far dormire il vostro bambino oltre i sei mesi, non è questo il libro per voi.

Sometimes if DS won't re-settle and it is after 5am I am guilty of starting the day just because trying to resettle is so trying. I bought this book to guide me with my newborn twins as I felt from talking to fellow twin mums it wasn’t realistic to follow a demand led pattern. This gives you a feeding plan which encourages meals for food and not snacking or comfort sucking to sleep. It worked for us but it was the hardest thing I have ever done and I wouldn't recommend it until you have reached rock bottom. If your baby tends to wake up early, such as around 5am, you might wonder how to get them to sleep in later, especially for babies aged 6 to 12 months. A routine which focuses on your baby’s digestion and teaching positive associations with feeding and sleep.

Allow time to relax and calm your babies before bed and naps and start a settling ritual which should last no longer than a few minutes. Your baby will sleep through the night at his own pace as a result of a balanced routine which is often a developing process. Then when they were comfortably on solids and I thought I could drop the 11pm feed (I used to feed them before I went to bed) I would stop offering it. As babies grow, they gradually learn to connect sleep cycles and sleep for more extended periods, particularly between the ages of 3 to 6 months. Besides you can’t sleep train a newborn, you can only meet their every need and ensure the right environment to promote sleep naturally.

It’s a myth that a baby needs to get used to noise and can sleep anywhere in the first few months; a baby who sleeps solidly at night will be a much lighter sleeper during the day so naps are best in the bedroom where noise is limited and dimmed lighting with a daily pram nap and perhaps skin-to-skin cuddles.
