Once you have located your C7 vertebrae and iliac crest measure the length between the two to get your torso length. That is almost the largest carrying capacity in our test suite and the combo of that and its relatively low weight give it the best volume to weight ratio in our review. Also, my back is not the strongest (but I am working on it), so a comfortable backpack that distributes the weight well is crucial for me. Zips on both the main backpack and detachable daypack come with lockable zips and easy grab zip pullers for easy opening and closure.Before I zipper up the straps, I sometimes tuck in a hoodie or jacket that I usually have hanging in the front and zipper it up along with the straps. Feel free to add an extra sweater and a pair of waterproof boots; this backpack is designed for loads up to 50 lbs. A PFC/PFA free water repellent coating adds additional travel protection from dirt and incidental showers but I would always recommend getting a rain cover if you are planning on trekking in bad weather. The main bag can be taken as hand luggage on some airlines, but I actually always checked it in, mainly because of the weight. Although the new bag still has a capacity of 55 litres in total Osprey have shrunk the main bag down to 40 litres from 42 and then added an additional 2 litres to the daypack to bring it up to 15 litres.
