Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and loved dogs, gardening and the countryside.

However, his seeming simple-mindedness is all an act to prevent people from seeing him for what he really is — a clever, scheming villain. Philip meets Jack and Lucy-Ann and Jack's pet bird Kiki, and after they sneak home with him, they move in with Philip, his sister Dinah and their Aunt Polly and Uncle Jocelyn at an ancient mansion at the coast. He is quite a tease with his sister Dinah about her squeamishness and often gets into fights with her about it. This is a fantastic collection for kids aged 9+ and fans of the world famous Enid Blyton stories, such as Famous Five and Secret Seven. Lucy-Ann Trent: Jack's little sister is the youngest of the foursome (about 11 at the beginning of the series) and also the most timid one.This does not continue on from The Island of Adventure, as it introduces the characters to us again and has them meet for the first time as well.

Mostly the children get tangled up in adventures which are connected with Bill's work at the time and end up solving them for him. Nice and clean pages but slightly yellow on the outer edges,a couple of creases and light shelf wear on the edges of the pages, small pencil marks impressions inside the first blank page of the book. A few changes (like the escape from the mines) I understand but why not have Jack and Lucy-Ann at the school to make their friendship more believable?

The stories show the four children off on their own, discovering and solving mysteries without much adult assistance.

She has the same red hair, green eyes, and freckles as her older brother, who she absolutely adores and can't be without for a minute. Pictorial hardback (small nicks and scratches on the cover and spine) in VGC, no Dj cover as issued. Jo-Jo warns the boys that, from their tower room in Craggy-Tops, they can occasionally see the dangerous Isle of Gloom, though it is usually shrouded in fog and mist.

But Philip, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and Jack are not prepared for the dangerous adventure that awaits them in the abandoned copper mines and secret tunnels beneath the sea. The children soon discover that he is a prince, named Aloysius Gramondie, and has enemies on his trail.
