About this deal

I guess that can also be said for various jigs and aids, but those were created for a purpose that the Festool MFT's were not. I checked all four corners and I marked up the corner that I liked the most - it looked perfectly square so I'll work from that corner as my reference corner when I start to mark up the hole positions. However, it is faster and more precise to use workbench plates that are manufactured with the highest CNC precision.

Then I could cut it to length and I made my jig 800mm in length which is the same measurement as the width of my table top, and that's important. Originally I was just going to have 7 rows b 7 columns and I was going to have the rest of the table top as just a regular surface, but I ended up changing my mind and adding more holes because I figured it'd give me more options in future. Our Universal MFT Replacement Top is made from Compact™ 88, which is a 88% Waterproof (12% maximum Absorption, Maximum) High Density Fibre Board. And for that, you’ll have a super-rigid 2ft x 4ft / 600mm x 1200mm torsion box MFT worktop with dust extraction and a replaceable top. As flat overall as the very best plywood with a surface smoothness nearly equal to MDF but much more durable and moisture resistant. After a few different tops, I had nicked a couple of the holes in the template top and I had to deal with that during the last build. This means setting the LR32 guides so that the first row of holes will be centered at 71 mm from the long edge of the MDF. Sometimes factory cut edges are not as square as they should be so it's always worth checking for projects when accuracy is important. The upfront investment is not trivial but once you have the jig you can use it to make as many MFT style tops as you want. I'd much rather employ jigs, fixtures and hard stops like Kapexes to achieve the critical cuts I need.

It can be helpful to drill a small hole that is 71 mm from each edge at the corner of the MDF, as that will help in aligning the rail. piece of MDF and I’ve brought back the LR 32 system, clamped it down the long side now (not the short side as we did for the jig) now it’s along the long side – same 5mm bit, and we’ll make a hole every 96mm. So with the router off, I place the bit in the drilled out hole, hit the foot switch make a couple of circles and then turn off the router and wait for it to stop to move it. There are also multiple kinds of MDO; some have a perfectly smooth surface and some telegraph the grain from the underlying exterior plywood core. There are some links to my favourite finishes in the My Tools section of the descripition box below if you're interested in seeing what I use.To reduce the risk of serious injury and/or damage to your Festool product, always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions in your Festool product's Instruction Manual.
