Heading to Soho Theatre following its Fringe First winning run in Edinburgh, Breathless is a funny, honest and stylish exploration of the knife-edge of hoarding, from the joy to the addiction and suffocating shame. This spring BIPC Devon is focusing on how we can support female entrepreneurs to turn their passion into profit! I was going to try and get sponsorship, you know businesses involved, we were in the middle of planning that, and doing all the health and safety- it was a nightmare trying to source a treadmill. Her reality is a slow descent into mental ill health fuelled by anxiety, lack of confidence and repression of her true self.

But when she’s suddenly evicted from her flat and has to pack up and move back to Plymouth with her parents, it becomes patently clear that she has a problem, rocking up with a huge moving van chock-a-block full, not of furniture, but of clothes. When a secret she’s keeping from those she loves, and even from herself, threatens to unravel it all, she has to make a choice.

You wrote the play yourself, then just kept applying for funding until you got the support to go up to Edinburgh and beyond?

But it’s still a serious problem that needs addressing; clothing hoarding is holding Sophie back from who she wants to be, taking up the space, as her mother tells her, of all the wonderful things yet to come. We engage and inspire many communities through performing arts and we aim to touch the lives and interests of people from all backgrounds.
