About this deal

Publication information is for the USA, and (unless stated otherwise) represents the first print edition. I kept rolling my eyes as Sunny debated whether she wanted to be with Tommy or Jack, there was just need for a love interest and her whining pissed me off.

Then I couldn't get into the characters, since they didn't seem to bond with each other, and then were shown working together as very close friends quite suddenly. If this doesn’t open your eyes and make you more conscious of what these people have gone through, then I don’t know what else will. She came all the way from America to raise money for an orphanage that could very well be a front for something sinister.

As the plot evolves, Rodriguez has some of her female Western characters, Sunny's friends, visit Afghan women who are in prison with their babies incarcerated alongside them.

He’s younger than her and her thoughts are mostly preoccupied with how different things must be for them now that they’re back in his country and why he doesn’t seem as into her as he did previously. I found the story of Sunny and her motley crew of workers/friends to be an interesting bunch and I found the way of life for the average person in Kabul to be a horrifying yet fascinating read. I would like to think that this book also highlights the plight of many refugees in having to leave their country in the hope of somewhere safe for their family. INCLUDES RECIPES, READING GROUP QUESTIONS AND AUTHOR INTERVIEW --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition. Pretty much everyone agreed that this was an easy read, which transported its readers to another world. We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. But personally I was so shocked by the treatment of the young girls and women, none of which I knew before I read the book, that parts of it literally gave me sleepless nights. It was obvious from the first page of her introduction that Wakil was only using her for money yet the author stretched out this thinner than crepe paper story till the end of the book. While I didn't learn anything new about Afghanistan or feel any cultural vibes from the pages it was an OK read, cute, hopeful.
