About this deal

The occasional thunder and lightning strikes also reach around the back, but do so without sounding intrusive or in the least bit bogus - something of a coup for a film that has such restrictions in dynamics.

but that's a different argument for another day) is the ideal method for watching this wacky horror debut. But with ambiance and tone established early on, 'The Evil Dead' makes for a great and exciting horror feature. This Blu-ray edition is without a doubt the very best audio/video presentation of the movie ever released for the home market. All of what I said about the qualities of the US video transfer goes for this one, as well, but I will say one thing, though – that shot in which Robert Tapert has been removed from the side of the frame actually did appear more obvious this time around. The tone is subdued, but informative, yet we are still sitting there just waiting for the funny stuff to arrive. Contrast is nicely balanced, though not very impressive, and whites are cleanly and brightly rendered. Rounding out the featurettes, we have "The Other Pages," a two-minute series of alternate takes involving Ash and the Book of the Dead, and a one-minute makeup test video with rough footage from back in the day.

The "Discovering The Evil Dead" featurette was previously included in both of the recent special editions released on DVD.I always felt that the 2013 remake was a BRUTAL film gore wise, but Lee Cronin hits the ground running and amps up the gore from level 11, to full on 15 on a scale from 1-10. Sadly, it is not … and, worse yet, it becomes a tedious and annoying affair that can be quite irritating to sit through. Photo Gallery —This is a large compilation of production stills, poster art, and behind-the-scenes photos. They discover an old book which, once they have read it, summons up all kinds of horrors: the trees come alive and so do the dead, who take over the bodies of the living. First of all, a couple of the extras features that were promised with this Sony edition, which is a single disc with everything housed on the Blu-ray, as opposed to a supplemental DVD in the US - “Ellen and the Teacher” (?

The PC viewable DVD-ROM folder is packed with over a gigabyte of rare Evil Dead trilogy material painstakingly collected over many years, with major contributions by a number of die hard Evil Dead fans. The 2002 US R1/2 Anchor Bay The Evil Dead: Book Of The Dead DVD sparked a debate over whether The Evil Dead should be seen in widescreen of fullscreen. You have to admit, though, that Raimi cuts away from the pencil-gouged ankle just in time before the whole fake foot comes apart at the seams. You have to respect them for being willing to step into the recording booth once again to talk about the one that started it all.The bass is just pure punishment, dolling out wave after wave of LFE that just crushes the listening position with some of the most brutal assaults I've heard this year. It's been a while since I've heard a TrueHD track (everything seems to be DTS these days), and I was immediately reminded of the wide and spacious sound TrueHD is capable of delivering. Inventive, imaginative, bravura and ferocious, Raimi's obsessive horror-homage is all these things and more. In either case, it's a much appreciated aspect of the disc, and I wish more studios would follow suit. The anecdotes come thick and fast, firmly supporting a lot of the legends that fans have always known about and refuting virtually nothing at all.
