John Walker’s grandsons, Alexander Walker II and George Walker, established the colour-based naming system. Johnnie Walker Red Label launched in 1909. The colour based system extended from there. The predecessor to Blue Label was a product called ‘Oldest,’ released in 1987 and replaced when Johnnie Walker Blue Label was launched in 1992. And Johnnie Walker Platinum 18 Year Old was released in 2012. There are five classifications of scotch whisky: single malt scotch, single grain scotch, blended scotch, blended malt scotch and blended grain scotch.
