About this deal

One thing I can't wrap my head around is the idea that this is mostly a date night scent. This is of course a perfect date night scent, but the idea behind it *as a date night scent* is not to spray tens or over twenty times to compensate for the poor longevity. You're supposed to spray just enough to create a subtle bubble of soothing, spicy warmness to draw your girl closer to you instead of repulse her by turning this into a projection monster. In short, this fragrance is a unisex version of L'Homme. It starts sweet and gentle. In fact, it's straight up a rosy women's scent. Then there's some warmth, and then spicy high-frequency electric vibrance. For me, these do not go too well together. It's like the perfume is simultaneously trying to go in different directions. Are we doing rosy? Warm? Spicy? Fresh? Can't tell. There's just too much going on.

An amazing fragrance. This makes my skin chemistry heavenly. If I had to choose one winter/night time scent for the rest of my life, it would be this one. This leans 70% masculine, but it actually beats other masculine fragrances because its sweetness is more akin to an alcoholic drink rather than the safe and cloying caramel/vanilla that some other masculine scents constantly retreat into to appear nice. It also doesn't have that generic heavy quality that I've noticed in some highly masculine fragrances either, as it seems to fit my skin like an airy glove. As many have already written, the performance is its main flaw, the longevity reaches about 6 hours and the sillage is intimate, so its appropriate use is probably for romantic dates. The combo is interesting if you catch a whiff, but doesn't work for prolonged smelling. It's one or two steps too many towards nausea. It reminds me of a freshly sprayed women's deodorant or hair spray lingering in the air. As time goes by and the scent fades, it blends better. An intriguing smell, yes, but on the weird side. I'm not sure why it's apparently so popular, maybe because it's inoffensive in the sense that basically anybody could wear it and not hate it. A perfect gift: if the recipient doesn't quite dig it, his wife will like it.I know, there have been reformulations, and some think it is now weaker. I’m not sure, but again, never been a beast for me.

This is in sharp contrast to those more shower-fresh-after-gym fragrances, "blue fragrances" and "cakes and candy" fragrances. Unusually for fragrantica, the options given to vote on the elements of the scent that stand out do actually represent the real smells working away in this EdT. There is a sort of spiciness to it, with a slightly acrid/bitter lime, floating around a relatively woody, earthy lavender. The first impressions that I gather from La Nuit is how utterly perfect it seems for nighttime wear. I mean, there are plenty of great smelling colognes, but this is just built for a night on the town and for getting close to the ladies.seeing as i live in quite a poor country the price of this YSL is quite high but i do not regret getting it, the scent is fab, but as one user wrote the performance of this frag is simply offensive, why did YSL do this to this lovely frag i do not know?! For a time, La Nuit is quite powdery and has a really attractive aroma, as it dries down. I like the opening of this scent, but the dry down is fantastic. The lavender, vetiver, and cedar…along with the remaining but toned down cardamom is still awesome and a pleasure to wear.

I like the use of lavender, overall the lavender is the bread and butter of this fragrance and it supports the entire structure of it. Cardamom is the note that this fragrance is remembered for, but it's the cardamom and spices combining with the lavender which acts as a vessel for all of those other notes. Also, the lavender makes this a fresh fragrance, not as much as the original L'Homme or it's non-La Nuit flankers, but it's fresher than what you might expect because the lavender is very clean and definitely synthetic, but in a good way. I think this is actually a really good choice for the office, better than how some people make it out to be although this is going to be a great intimate fragrance because I can't imagine very many girls NOT liking this. It is such a balanced offering and I think that is part of the reason that it is so good. It smooth, not overpowering, and it has an alluring mystery behind it. I would say that this is a date night type of cologne and not a bold nightclub standout such as 1 Million.I actually blind-bought this as my first fragrance. I was looking for an everyday, young yet refined, non-offensive yet exciting scent. As a 20 y.o. student, I often find male fragrances in particular way too harsh and "old-smelling". Mayby I just don't like musk. Anyway, as I live in quite a remote area I didn't have the facilities to test it. So I just watched endless Youtube video's about it, and decided to get it. It was a great choice! This mysterious and seductive fragrance is based around three pairs of contrasting notes that manage to fit perfectly together. The first vibrant pair is composed by spicy cardamom and fresh zesty bergamot that incisively open up the scent, the second contrast comes from the heart notes of woody cedar and delicate lavender while the deep base holds the last contrasting pair of dark vetiver and velvety coumarin that enrich the fragrance with warm and fascinating sensuality. After the first few minutes, the lavender steps up big time, along with the cedar. So, you get a mix of cardamom and lavender (cardamom still the strongest), with fresh woody aromas emanating from the base.
