About this deal

There were authors that were new to me and I'd only come across one of these stories before. I've two more books in this series to read and expect I'll enjoy those as well. Over the last two years, Cecily Gayford & Martin Edwards have become my favourite editors who compile books of classic crime short stories.

We all appreciate, I think, as parents, nothing can prepare us for the death of a child in any way, shape or form, and I think we can only imagine what the parents and family are going through.”Detective superintendent Sue Coombs from major crime investigations said in an update on Boxing Day: “We have made two arrests in connection with this cold-blooded shooting. In the wake of Edwards’s murder, her father, Tim Edwards, has campaigned to raise awareness of the devastating impact that gun and knife crime has on families. With this knowledge the police man takes the cat to the girlfriend who runs to her bedroom and find the old lady's stuff.

The pub’s managers said the shooting was “a tragedy beyond any words”, adding: “All our thoughts are with the friends and family of our customers, and in particular our hearts go out to the family of our customer who has lost her life.” I’m going to focus more on it and hopefully come up with an end goal of what we’re going to try and achieve in Elle’s name,’ he said. A provisional cause of death was given as gunshot wounds to the head. Bhardwaj said she would release Edwards’ body to her family. Toxicology analysis would be carried out before a full postmortem report, she said. This one I didn’t like as much, it was a story within a story, slow and didn’t really capture my attention. As my last Christmas murder mystery was a disappointment, I jumped right into this with fingers crossed the title really meant what it read. I'm happy to report, this little collection is on-brand. I really enjoyed eight of the ten here so, four stars. My favourites: The jury in Chapman’s trial heard the shooting, carried out with a Skorpion sub-machine gun, was the culmination of a feud between criminals on the Woodchurch estate, where Chapman lived, and the nearby Beechwood estate. Elle’s family are still having to come to terms with her tragic loss, and our specially trained family liaison officers are supporting them.

This one is a story in a story about magical painting, one of four that correspond with the seasons. November 28 2022 – Chapman carries out a burglary with two other men, Curtis Byrne and Mason Smith, stealing two electric bikes from the shed of a property on Thirlmere Avenue. Unfortunately, Elle was his last victim but thankfully she will be the last person he does anything to and he can go fade away.” Twixt the Cup and the Lip by Julian Symons- in which a jewel heist in the week leading up to Christmas is carried out and ultimately foiled by a very unlikely witness via an even more obscure means. A nice story but I figured out the situation & solution far too early. Still a good story. When she first became a Christian at 18, she had been “captivated” by Jesus’ love for her: “I realised he had paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world, and I had no doubt about his forgiveness. I knew it was pure, clean and almighty – and that it meant I could go to heaven when I died.” Instead of sharing Christmas Day 2012 with their children and missionary daughter, whom they hadn’t seen for two years, Maureen had a late night visit from the police. Subsequently she had to cope with her own raw grief, national press coverage and seeing her husband’s killers in court. This one Father Brown goes to visit a local man who has lost his two elder brothers, who were killed by their adoptive brother. Three weeks before that tragic night, the couple had rejoiced to see the official opening of a food and furniture bank, after years of storing donations for the needy in their garage. “I left the murderers in God’s hands”

On 21 August, 28-year-old Ashley Dale was shot dead outside her home in Old Swan by an unknown gunman. A Wife in A Million by Val McDermid- in which a disgruntled wife is, instead of handing out holiday cheer, out slipping a little arsenic into grocery items and DS Maggie Staniforth is on the case and dealing with her own disgruntled wife. Very cleverly told. Merseyside police senior investigating officer Det Supt Paul Grounds praised Edwards’s family, who “have remained dignified and composed despite being forced to relive the horrific events of Christmas Eve”.At a press conference on Friday with Edwards’ father, Tim Edwards, police said two people arrested in connection with the alleged murder had been released, as they appealed for information about a Mercedes seen in the pub car park shortly before the shooting.
