About this deal

I was also going through a period where I needed to reconcile the "old" me who was egotistical and ambitious and the "new" me who strived to be compassionate and humble. I beat myself up for having been that person, and was working so hard to suppress those old parts of myself and it was causing me to be depressed about who I am. The book made me realize that I didn't need to suppress that person - instead, it needed acceptance and there's no reason to completely put that part of myself away. Whereas some books on this list are very high-level and theoretical, this is a more accessible option, though still tilting towards the spiritual. (As most books on this subject do.)

Shadow work is a process of self-exploration that involves confronting and integrating the unconscious parts of ourselves that we often try to ignore or hide. The Dark Side of the Light Chasers: Reclaiming Your Power, Creativity, Brilliance, and Dreams by Debbie Ford.To live a life of excellence, you will have to take risks. You will have to step into new territory and climb new mountains. If you’re up to something that’s as big as you are, it’s going to be scary. If it feels perfectly safe, you are probably underachieving. To leave your mark in the world, you will have to stand someplace you’ve never been willing to stand before. And you will have to have the courage to aspire to excellence. To create an extraordinary life you will have to be present in each moment and give 100 percent of yourself. You will have to commit each day to being the best you can be, and aspire to perform your daily tasks in the most conscious way possible. Living your best year requires you to take a moment each time you’re about to make a move—whether you are about to deliver a communication, make a decision, or put something into your body—and make sure that move reflects the very highest choice you could make. ” Shadow Dance: Liberating the Power & Creativity of Your Dark Side” by David Richo is a powerful and transformative book that guides readers through the process of exploring and integrating their shadow selves. For example, let's say you come across lots of arrogant people. Try using their behaviour as a mirror—ask yourself if there's an aspect of yourself that is arrogant. The answer is often yes. Richo emphasizes the importance of self-compassion and mindfulness in the shadow work process and provides guidance on how to work through difficult emotions that may arise.

Life is constantly reflecting this information to us — but it’s a cryptic code. In a nutshell, you will only be able to see it in another person if that is a quality you have rejected in yourself but that which is still in you. Debbie Ford, bestselling self-help author of 'Dark Side of the Light Chasers' dead at 57". The Washington Post. February 19, 2013 . Retrieved February 20, 2013. [ dead link] Over the years, in a career spanning 20 years, she gave workshops and lectures across the US and trained coaches on the "shadow process". [8] She appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, and Fox & Friends, and was a regular contributor to Oprah.com [9] and Huffington Post. [1] She hosted a weekly talk radio show on Hay House Radio, titled Shadow Talk. [10] She produced and appeared in the documentary The Shadow Effect (2009), and also in 3 Magic Words (2010). [11] If you want a deeper dive into the theory of shadow work, you’ll want to supplement this one with another book from this list. That's because this book gets you to confront aspects of your personality you'd rather hide away, such as anger, judgement or arrogance. It also challenges you to consider what you might be capable of under the right (or wrong!) circumstances.

The Shadow Work Workbook: Self-Care Exercises for Healing Your Trauma and Exploring Your Hidden Self by Jor-el Caraballo, LMHC. Overall, this book includes practical exercises and tools for identifying and working with our inner critic, as well as personal stories and case studies that illustrate the transformative power of this work. For those interested in shadow work, “Games People Play” is a helpful resource for identifying patterns and behaviors rooted in our shadow selves. When we are angry with the selfishness of a friend, when we find the arrogance of others off putting, we may be reacting to that exact same trait within ourselves. We deny parts of ourselves and so we never are in tune with the world, we stay at war with the world, or at least aggravated with it. This doesn’t mean we surrender to, or take the leash off the bad stuff. It means we can only control something if we know it is there. I was really not sure what to expect with this book and thought it might go over my head, but it resonated with me.
