About this deal

The unlikely friendship between Liya and Feo gives the reader hope. The sacrifices Liya makes for Feo shows the true loyalty of their friendship and the determination to make Russia a better place. The Wolf Wilder is what children's fiction is all about. A sweeping landscape, an unforgettable main character, a budding revolution, and wolves! there was nothing to indicate it was this particular lullaby, but i couldn't shake this feeling off, this song off, those tears

Humans, on the whole, Feo could take or leave; there was only one person she loved properly, with the sort of fierce pride that gets people into trouble, or prison, or history books." Ach!” Feo stumbled, and sat down on her own ankle. She said a word that made the stranger pushing his way past her raise his eyebrows and curl his lip. I absolutely loved the characters. They were all so warm and charming in their own ways, from fierce, brave Feo, to her lovable friend Ilya and the bunch of children they encounter on their journey. The wolves as well were fantastic, each with their own personalities, and the bond they had with Feo was so lovely to read about. Nothing worth anything,” said one soldier. His eyes moved across her reindeer-skin bedspread and the hurricane lamp and came to rest on her skis, leaning against the fireplace. Feo ran to stand protectively in front of them.

My point is that you will keep your hands off my daughter if you value their current position at the ends of your arms.” He went on. “There are schools—in Vladivostok—where she could learn the values of a better mother—Mother Russia. Perhaps I will have her sent there.” Thankfully I have never been in a situation such as this, but Katherine Rundell made you feel like you were in Feo’s shoes experiencing her tragic story. Feo’s unconditional love for the wolves even though she couldn’t control them showed the strong friendship and loyalty that this book is all about. In this book the wolves were described very well, I loved how the book emphasised that they were free and uncontrollable but safe if you were kind to them. In this story friendship is so important and of course family. Not only the family you have by blood, but the family you choose to have.

Feo loves her quiet, fulfilling existence, but the world outside is cruel and dangerous. The Russian army are laying waste to the surrounding areas, spreading corruption, greed and fear throughout the land. Ilya loves to dance (not that challenging gender roles makes you gay, fyi) and never misses an opportunity to dazzle. Feo describes his dancing "like a lost boy foun: like a victory parade." When the famed Igor Darikev comes to recruit Ilya as a student, he cautions the boy that such a decision is not to be taken lightly: the life of a dancer is a hard one, filled with strenuous work, long days, and a lonely social life. The exchange that follows pretty much sealed the deal for me: A gorgeous flight of imagination set in a snowy Russian fantasy world, this has both the beauty and the fierce, funny and uncompromising storytelling style that sets Katherine Rundell's books apart. The Wolf Wilder is a Faberge egg of a novel - rich, bright and perfect Robin Stevens

Mama!” said Feo. She took a handful of her mother’s coat as Marina swept into the room, and held it tight. Whilst it was great to have a male character who loved ballet I wondered if it was needed to mention that this character was gay as this is a tiring stereotype of boys who do ballet If there was a second account on one of the other characters- perhaps the wolves would've been an amusing choice- it would've been nice to just switch things up.

Read it: During the next snow storm; from the bottom of a dog pile; to your kids, no matter their age. Unfortunately, this is a disaster of a narrative. It's getting two stars only because there are some beautiful passages strewn into the mess. I'd consider dropping it to one and a half stars, if I could, because those profound little shards don't even fit into the rest of the story. I don't know what Katherine Rundell was trying to accomplish in this work, and that's the problem.Up close, they looked barely more than sixteen; but the man with the door-beating fists was old, and his eyes were the oldest thing about him. Feo’s stomach bunched up under her throat.
