This would be a wonderfulbook to include ina school or classroom library, it could be used to stimulate discussions about children’s own families. A We Are Family wall display would be great fora classroom wall! Every family is different and this beautifully illustrated picture book wonderfully portrays the diverse nature of families in our society today. Despite manydifferences in family structures there are also many similarities and experiences regardless of race, religion or colour. We Are Family does a fantasticjob of portrayingdifferent families whilst showinghow their memberssupport and live with each other throughgood times and bad. It’s delightful to have a book like this to leaf through in which most children would be able to see themselves, or something like their own family. There’s loads of detail to talk about with younger children – what people are eating, who the families remind us of (ourselves; our friends and family), and the common threads of everyday life that link us together, reminding us all that we’re more similar than we are different. The bookintroduces us to tendifferent families. They varyfrom families with one child to a family with four. There arefamilies with a father and mother, families with same sex parents, a family with a single parent, another with grandparents, a family with a (possibly) fostered or adopted child, mixed race families and a familiy with a disabled child.Kids have big dreams. And when those dreams are on the line, how far are they willing to go to achieve them? For each kid, Hoop Group was more than just a chance to ball; it was an escape, a dream, a family. Now their prospects seem all but impossible—but then the world hasn’t met Jayden, Tamika, Chris, Anthony, and Dex before. Hegarty's text is rather simple, straightforward and rather poetic. It is a story about what families no matter how they’re compose or how big or small they are do together – they may do it differently, but at the end of the day, they do it just the same. Wheatcroft's illustrations is what make the book, while the text speak of families generically, it is the illustrations that demonstrate the varieties of families out there. Our understanding of what makes a family has undergone a revolution in the last few decades, from same-sex parenthood to surrogacy, donor conception, and IVF. But what has the impact been on children?

Like(s): The illustration show many different photos of all of the family members almost like a collage. The premise of the book is rather straightforward. It gives several examples of what families go through despite their size and composition. The myriad of families depicted is the so called traditional heterosexual parents, gay and lesbian parents, single parents, families with one or many children, blended families, multi-ethnical families, multi-race families, families with differently abled people, multi-generational families, adopted families, large families, and small families. However, it is shown that every family is different – the love is all the same.
