About this deal

And of course, Hot Rod can hold Legends Firebolt or the Siege Battle Master Firedrive, though he cannot accommodate with Hot Rod's vehicle mode. This mold was also used to make the concurrently released TakaraTomy Mall exclusive Decepticon Refraktor R5, and redecoed into Nemesis Prime. A supposed factory error even caused this version (minus display stand) to be included in the larger Optimus Prime kit (see below). This problem has (presumably) been fixed, but it was awesome while it lasted. Known designers: Aaron Archer (Hasbro), Hironori Kobayashi and Shogo Hasui (TakaraTomy), Don Figueroa (concept artist) That's it, man. Everything else is all amazing. Mine doesn't hold his gun in the right hand so well but I think I've made that worse by giving him Megatron's purple gun to hold (that has a slightly wider tab) so that might be partly on me.

Part of the first wave of "Battle Upgrade" Hero Mashers toys, Optimus is a non-transforming action figure with ratchet-joints, about six inches tall. He has multiple peg-holes all over that can be used to mount any Hero Mashers accessory. As a first-wave figure, he has extra ankle articulation that is not present in later waves (a cut that was made to all Hero Mashers lines, not just the Transformers-branded ones). Still feel wronged? Lets dig a little deeper with some real and rough numbers. Usually toy manufacturers like to make >100% Profit margin. Labor is roughly 25% of the cost of production. Though the cost of labor is relatively constant, the amount of labor does not scale linearly. BUT lets just say for the sake of argument that at 3x the hardware and parts, there must be approximately 3x more labor associated with it. Makes sense right? The small robot component, as well as being part of Optimus Prime, was also released with a different trailer as Pepsi Convoy.

This mold was also used, with different heads and accessories, to make the other Transformers GT toys: GT-R Saber, GT-R Megatron, and GT-R Maximus. Shouldn't be hard for him to fit in with the Decepticons... There's like, two other "evil Optimus Prime" guys in their ranks.

With the release of a new tooling of Convoy in 2011, the line was rebooted, featuring a smaller, more consistent scale based on MP-09 Rodimus Convoy, and a significant increase in releases per year. Rather notably, Masterpieces of the smaller characters were introduced.Dubbed "Hot Rod Blue Clear Version", this redeco of the oft-used Classics Rodimus mold is cast in transparent blue plastics, emulating the scene in The Transformers: The Movie where Hot Rod catches the Matrix of Leadership to keep it from hitting the floor after a dying Optimus Prime dropped it. Of interest is the fact that all the plastic parts are translucent, even the usually "softer"/unpaintable/never-clear nylon parts—a trend not seen on any other "clear" toys produced before. This figure was available with a Hot Rod pin and Macrocosmic Seekers booklet directly from e-HOBBY, he was also released in Asian countries outside of Japan without said pin and booklet. Tenseg Base features metallic silver deco, designed for complimenting the included Optimus Prime figure displays His transformation shares engineering with the Thrilling 30 Legends figure, but with sculpted detailing directly based on the Earthrise mold, down to details like the vestigial knee flaps from the Siege mold. The included Ion Blaster features a 3 mm handle under a 5 mm post, dedicated to the C.O.M.B.A.T. System. He is also fairly articulated for a figure this small, having head rotation and tilting, torso rotation (which actually looks a bit unnatural), ab crunch, butterfly joints at the shoulders, and ball joints in shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. This set, like the one above, was only available in the US through closeout chains like Ross and TJ Maxx in 2015.
