Nudity in Greek life was the exception in the ancient world. What had begun as a male initiation rite in the eighth century BCE became a "costume" in the Classical period. Garbati’s Medusa previously made her New York debut in December 2018 in the “ MWTH Project,” a group show exploring revisionist versions of classical heroic narratives. Pan Copulating with a Goat is an old sculpture that was found in Pompeii. It was one of several sexual statues from an old Roman erotic collection found there.
