Otex ear drops contain the active ingredient urea hydrogen peroxide, which helps to soften ear wax. Urea hydrogen peroxide works to soften ear wax by releasing oxygen which breaks up hardened wax, it also has some antiseptic properties. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. Like most medicines of this kind, Otodex is not recommended to be used during pregnancy. Your doctor or pharmacist will discuss the risks and benefits of using it if you are pregnant. Paediatric use. Although it is unlikely that infants will be treated with Otodex for prolonged periods, there is a risk of adrenal suppression, even without occlusive dressings, after prolonged treatment of these patients with topical steroids. All medicines can have side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention. Persisting infection which is thought to be fungal can be treated with Locacorten-Viaform ear drops, where as more severe cases may require a topical antifungal such as 1% clotrimazole. The choice you make should usually come down to the current state of your dog’s ear hygiene and why your particular pup desperately needs them washed: Infections

Dogs with ear mites will often shake their heads excessively and scratch their ears. Can humans catch ear mites from pets? Topical treatment should be used instead of oral antibiotics (topical antibacterial/corticosteroid combinations are usually first line). Furunculosis of the externa ear is the development of a furuncle (boil) in the outer part of the ear canal and causes extreme pain. There have been reported cases of ototoxicity with aminoglycosides administered to patients with mitochondrial mutations, particularly the m.1555A > G mutation, which suggests an increased risk of ototoxicity in these patients, including cases where the patient's aminoglycoside serum levels were within the recommended range. Some cases were associated with a maternal history of deafness and/or mitochondrial mutation. Mitochondrial mutations are rare, and the penetrance of this observed effect is unknown. A dry powder that only needs a small spoonful to be effective, this is a dry solution which can be applied with a soft brush (make-up brush is best). Unlike liquid solutions, you don’t want this powder to go near your mutt’s ear hole and so it needs to be lightly dusted round the inner ear and then massaged gently! Wipes Treatment with corticosteroid/antibiotic combinations should not be continued in the absence of clinical improvement, since prolonged use may lead to occult extension of infections due to the masking effect of the steroid.
