About this deal

The 120Hz refresh rate is actually disabled by default for battery-saving reasons, but can be switched on in the phone’s display settings. Anyone who needs an Android phone to tide them over between pricey flagships, the Redmi Note 10 Pro is also perfect for you. Design The resolution is 2,400 x 1,080, which means you’re getting around 395 pixels per inch – significantly better than what you’d get on your average laptop screen, even if it falls behind some of the 2K panels on high-end smartphones.

In addition to its 108MP main camera, the Redmi Note 10 Pro features an 8MP ultra-wide lens for action-cam-a-like shots, and a 5MP macro camera, which, thanks to autofocus, isn’t a massive waste of space. There’s also a depth sensor for good measure. At its price, you’re kidding yourself if you’re expecting the Redmi Note 10 Pro to be a fancy glass and metal mix. Instead, it’s one of the best plastic phones we’ve tested. The best camera in the world can’t detract from the Redmi Note 10 Pro’s adverts. Yep. Ads for third-party apps pop up when you install a new app. They’re pretty gross, but you can turn them off. Nevertheless, to get away with such an eye-sore, the Note 10 Pro would have to be the best phone money can buy at its price, which, as you’ve probably gathered by now, it is. So, should I buy it?On the subject of performance, this isn’t something we’ve been able to test in our normal way, unfortunately. As is often the case with pre-release phones, our usual testing apps – GeekBench and GFXBench – don’t work, so we can’t get comparable figures. At dusk in my garden – dark enough for nearby streetlights to have turned on, but not dark enough to need flash – the Xiaomi once again performed superbly, with punchy images, plenty of detail and very little noise. Crucially, when compared to a 108MP shot taken at the same time, there’s not that big a difference in quality, even when zoomed in.

You have to zoom in pretty close to begin to see some light smearing, and even then it’s not hugely pronounced. We can’t think of a more compromise-free budget phone than the Note 10 Pro, it really is that simple. The front-facing camera is also very good and takes the most flattering selfies I’ve seen in a while, feeling less like a mug shot than my recent efforts. The default setting (middle) has some light beautification enabled, but you can see what it’s like turned off (left) and maxed out (right) if you play around with the settings.Fortunately, the Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC has exactly the same core specifications, so we can assume that performance will be near identical. Here’s how it shapes up compared to other phones in and around the same price point: Optional extras that, practically speaking, are useless to many right now (we’re looking at you 5G) are missing from Xiaomi’s latest Redmi phone. Instead, it’s got a best-in-class screen and camera, excellent battery life with fast charging, not to mention standout design for the price.
