About this deal

STAUB enameled cast iron cookware is the choice of the world’s best chefs. With exceptional durability, it is perfect for day-to-day use in both gourmet home kitchens and prestigious restaurants around the world. Built to last a lifetime, these heirloom pieces can be passed from generation to generation. The STAUB cocotte is unsurpassed for slow-cooking meats and vegetables to tender perfection, and for simmering hearty stews and soups. With this traditional, round, French cocotte, you will be able to make lots of delicious stews and casseroleswhich is 26cm in diameter and 17cm tall, with a volume of 5.2 litres. Its attractive design means you can present your dishes at the table when entertaining friends or family and the food will stay hot. Yet, since this is such an expensive piece of cookware, it would be better to minimize the amount of time it spends in the dishwasher. Try cleaning by hand as much as possible to extend its life. What Size do I need? Congratulations on choosing Staub, you won’t be disappointed. They are exceptional cocottes. Fantastic design, colors and build. You can read a review I did here, as you will see, it did exceptionally well. Where do I even begin? The Staub Cocotte is jaw-droppingly good at everything it does. I made sourdough bread as the first test to see if the lid knob would actually bear the 500-degree heat repeatedly. It did! And the bread was perfect with blistery crust and an amazing crumb.

I’m not a big fan of any of the tall cast-iron cocottes. You can get more affordable bakeware/pots/steamers to do much the same thing. The lid on the Staub cocotte is heavy, and it fits snugly on the pot. This reduces moisture escaping from the oven. To achieve a tight-fitting lid, the company needs to manufacture the cocotte to millimeter precision. Unfortunately, this does add to the manufacturing cost. Why is the lid on the Staub Dutch Oven so good? Prevents food from drying out.But it’s their chistera basting spikes that are especially helpful. These small bumps on the otherwise flat lid help contain moisture, creating a self-basting rainfall effect inside the pot. L / W / H = Length / Width / Height in Inches. Length is handle to handle, Width is the upper diameter and height includes the lid. This gives you a good idea of the space you need for the Dutch oven. Just to confuse things even more, sometimes Staub sizes use imperial quarts, instead of US quarts. I have used US quarts in my comparison tables, since hardly anyone actually uses imperial quarts anymore. Staub Standard Round Cocottes I've learned the soak method will present you with the results you want with the Le Creuset, which involves leaving the pan to soak for half an hour while cleaning the rest of my kitchen. I then use a non-abrasive handheld brush to remove any leftover residue. The others are more likely to be used in the oven to create individual dishes (i.e. one mini Cocotte per guest.) Capacity Quarts (Litres)

Remember, the servings measure below is in theory for full meals, so if you cook something else as well, you can serve more people. Staub’s pots and pans are made at the company’s factory in France. They use sand molds, molten steel, and coal dust to create durable heavy-gauge cookware that is pretty much indestructible. The only maintenance they require is to be cleaned well after every meal is prepared. Although they are deemed dishwasher safe I always handwash my Staub. What are the benefits of Staub cooking? Keep up to date with this Staub Color Guide! What Is the Number on Staub Lids? Staub Cocotte Spiked Basting Lid Your cocotte and the metal knob will handle high temperatures without risk of damage to the enamel coating. And you can set a standard oven to your desired temperature. Staub lids are quite possibly the highest quality you can find. Firstly, in my experience, they always use metal knobs which are less likely to break. So I could see myself buying one of these if I had money to spare and extra space in my kitchen. At the moment I have neither! Planning on cooking large birds whole? Then consider the 8.5 quart oval Dutch oven. Be careful though, this Staub cocotte is big and heavy. First of all, these are great pieces of cookware that look fantastic in any kitchen. They’re stylish and the perfect addition for anyone who loves traditional styles. Secondly, they’re very easy to use and are oven safe you can throw them in a 350-degree oven or on your stovetop without having to worry about damaging them at all. You don’t need to have special tools or materials to season them as they are coated in enamel – just some oil and heat! Are there any downsides to Staub products? The bouillabaisse is an excellent pan for cooking fish dishes, but nothing is stopping you from using it for other things. If you need a casserole or braiser, it’s worth considering. Capacity Quarts (Litres) quart per person should be enough for soups, stews, and liquids. For other dishes, you may need more capacity.

Otherwise, it depends on what you want. Have money and space to spare? The Tomato shaped cocotte looks amazing. The pots are the same. Staub calls their product a cocotte, but it is not a word well-known outside of France. So many retailers advertise a Staub Cocotte as a Staub Dutch oven because it is more familiar to shoppers. Even Le Creuset uses the term Dutch oven. The Cocotte can be used from -20°cto 250°c, but should be heated slowly. Handle with care: Use oven gloves and a trivet, as the Cocotte will become very hot. To avoid scratches, use kitchen gadgets made of wood or silicone. You may find that some Staub lids have a small etched number printed on the bottom. These numbers are called pattern letters, and they represent the type of pot or pan to which the lid belongs. Each letter represents a different size of pot or pan, as well as its accompanying lid. The amount of food you want to bake or the number of people you’re cooking for will help determine what size cocotte is best for your needs.
