We’ve been inspired by traditional construction methods to create our Boot Bananas Eco Travel Deodorisers made with natural fibre fabrics (genuinely home compostable materials) & activated carbon. They will remain effective even if they have turned slightly brown, but you can use this transformation to gauge how ripe your bananas are! This indicates how much moisture has been absorbed. Replace when common sense dictates. These can help to revive an old pair of climbing shoes that have gone nuclear. The odor might not be completely eliminated. But you’ll no longer be receiving dirty looks from across the street. But for optimum performance, incorporate them into your new shoe care routine before your shoes stink. Preventing the bacteria from developing in the first place will keep your shoes fresh longer. But that lingering damp smell that’s particularly common in synthetic shoes is significantly reduced by the bananas – even in the gnarliest of shoes (like those accidentally left in a bag!). This seems like a good idea at first. The talc absorbs sweat, stopping it from soaking into the sole and upper of your climbing shoe. There is a problem with this solution, however. After some activity, the sweat and powder combine to make a paste. This can cause the shoe to feel slippery against the skin – not ideal for a climbing shoe. It’s also possible for the sweat and compounds in the powder to mix together to form a solution that damages the textiles in your shoes. Should you Get it?Boot Bananas absorb moisture from whiffy footwear, making them perfect to shove in your climbing shoes after a sweaty session. The Boot Banana, on the other hand, really surprised me. It seems to have done a significantly better job at ridding both shoes of the odor. That damp smell that has been haunting this pair of climbing shoes was significantly reduced, if not completely eliminated, with the use of the Banana. There was also a significant improvement in the smell of the sneaker too, and when comparing the shoe spray, it was clear the Boot Banana had worked some voodoo magic with both of these shoes. You will be able to tell when your Boot Bananas are ready to be replaced because they slowly turn brown the more they are used, when entirely brown your Boot Bananas are saturated and need to be replaced.
Activated charcoal deodorising inserts have been used for literally centuries, they’re a tried & tested method for removing odours in enclosed spaces. We’d just moved into our first flat together and the smell of Phil’s climbing shoes had become a problem he could no longer hide. We tried everything on the market to deodorise them but nothing was up to the challenge. So, putting our best feet forward, we decided to fight the funk ourselves. It’s…a banana! As well as testing the Boot Bananas out on climbing shoes, I also decided to test them on a pair of equally disgusting sneakers, after all, the Boot Bananas themselves say they are suitable for “climbing boots, running shoes or any other fruity footwear”. Needless to say, the Boot Bananas have their work cut out. Philip Osband: We distributed test patterns to climbing gyms, and after many positive responses, started production of a small quantity in our flat. Then, when interest grew from climbing shops all over England, we had to professionalize and outsource our production in 2013. In the first year, we produced 4,000 units and supplied 35 shops in England this year, we’ll sell about 30,000 units to over 170 shops all over Europe.Philip Osband: You can dispose them totally normally in your household rubbish. The ingredients and the cotton sheathing decompose in the dump, and you can definitely find another use for the metal carabiner included in the delivery. Some discolouration may occur with use.
