(combined optical and sensor stabilisation) of select Lumix cameras and you can achieve good results down to around 1s with both lenses: A simple question. Is the extra cost of the Leica Panasonic 12-60 worth it? Vs. the much less costly plain Panasonic version? I'm looking at used from either Keh or MPB. I'll be mostly shooting landscapes with it. Thanks!

I own both and the PL is a wonderful lens and noticeably better in most regards compared to the Panny version. Sharpness and micro-contrast are better, and build quality is far better. If you will use it for a good portion of your photography, I would say the price difference is worth it. If it's more of a once in a while or travel lens, then it gets a little more difficult of a decision. The PL is also bigger and heavier. I use the Panny version on my GM5 due to the light weight and smaller overall size.Other than being a faster lens, what would be the "real world" difference? What differences might I see in my images with the 2x more expensive lens? At 40mm we have +0.0804% pincushion distortion, plus CA figures that are so low as to be very creditable for a compact zoom lens, indeed for any lens. This is a remarkable degree of correction. At the 12mm end of the zoom range the lens has a diagonal angle of view of 84°, equivalent to that of a 24mm lens in a 35mm system.

You will not be bothered by vignetting, whether you use jpg files directly out of the camera or RAW files converted in Silkypix, Lightroom or Photoshop. With micro-43 cameras, jpg files are already corrected in the camera for any vignetting. RAW that you open in Lightroom or Photoshop also show practically no visible vignetting, because RAW files are corrected for lens errors upon being opened in Lightroom or Photoshop. When we open the RAW files outside Lightroom, it appeared that the uncorrected RAW files showed little vignetting, and not because of a lens correction. That is good news for the signal-to-noise ratio in the corners, since that decreases when heavy correction for vignetting is done. Only at full aperture is vignetting visible (mouseover the picture below). good)Primes are always better in absolute sharpnes vs a good zoom, moving parts creates compromises and distortionflaws. The main enemies for bad lenses are decentered lens, a smudged lens or serious flare problem in specific shooting conditions.

Special Thank You to Natural Exposures Explorer Fred Kurtz for sharing a great collection of images he shot with the Olympus 12-100m zoom. Conclusion From what you say, I doubt you would notice a difference. The extra stop is nice, I suppose, but with today's high ISO values and image stabilization one stop is not near as important as it was even 4 or 5 years ago. The Pana-Leica is more appropriate if you’re looking for one high quality, all-purpose zoom for 90% of your photography, or if you do a lot of manual video work and could benefit from the smooth focus and zoom rings.

At the 60mm end the angle of view is 20.44°, which is the same as that of a 120mm lens on a 35mm full-frame camera. For example, when using the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with its in-body stabilisation deactivated, I was able to take sharp shots at shutter speeds as slow as: The bokeh of the lens is perhaps slightly fussy, but it is not surprising with just 7 diaphragm blades. It is certainly not unpleasant and the slightly softer telephoto images will lens themselves well to giving pleasing out of focus areas. This could be where the portrait photographers will find some highly effective effects. This collection of lenses is currently what I use. I’m a huge fan of all three, Leica 8-18, Leica 12-60 and Olympus 40-150mm. All of them super sharp. The 40-150mm has the ability to be used with the Olympus 1.4X teleconverter and this combination is exceptional.
