About this deal

Parrella, Andrew (December 18, 2014). "From The Archives: Rudolph Turns 75". New Hampshire Public Radio. Archived from the original on December 24, 2014. Mr. Cuddles was a teddy bear that started as a present given to Steven, and was his favorite gift that he played with. When Steven grew up however, he became interested in other things and forgot about Mr. Cuddles. The teddy bear was put inside a box, was taken to the dump, and his parts were torn apart. Wanting to save other Christmas toys from the fate of being forgotten, he put on a green trench coat, an olive green fedora, sky blue mittens, and wore brown stilts, going under the name the "Toy Taker". He used a magic flute to hypnotize other toys.

In Ray Stevens' novelty song "Santa Claus Is Watching You" (1962), Rudolph is replaced on Santa's team by "Clyde the Camel", a character from Stevens' earlier hit, " Ahab the Arab". In the original version, aimed at children in a similar fashion to " Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", Rudolph was said to be recuperating from an injury sustained during "a twist contest"; a later version, warning a lover away from infidelity because Santa is watching, has Rudolph on a " stakeout at (the lover's) house". Lankford, Ronald D. (2013). Sleigh Rides Jingle Bells & Silent Nights: A Cultural History of American Christmas Songs. Gainesville, Florida: University Press of Florida. p. 86. ISBN 978-0813044927. Still, Marks initially struggled with the task, calling his first attempt “ easily one of the worst songs ever written.” Later revisions proved more successful, and he began shopping the tune around to singers like Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore and Perry Como (who would have taken it, had Marks given him permission to alter the lyrics). Rudolph': The Original Red-Nosed Manuscript". Npr.org. Archived from the original on December 27, 2013 . Retrieved December 13, 2019. {{ cite web}}: CS1 maint: bot: original URL status unknown ( link)When the special finally aired in 1964, it became such a hit that it has been rebroadcast every year since, making it the longest-running Christmas special in history. Even today, the special still punches above its weight; when Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer aired on CBS in 2016, it beat every show except This Is Us. In 2017, more viewers tuned in to watch Rudolph than A Charlie Brown Christmas, which ran on ABC in the same time slot. In 1972, DC Comics published a 14th edition in an extra-large format. Subsequently, they published six more in that format: Limited Collectors' Edition C-20, C-24, C-33, C-42, C-50 [27] and All-New Collectors' Edition C-53, C-60. [28]

Why is it that more than half a century after its original airing, this charming tale of a red-nosed reindeer still captivates our hearts? Let’s unravel the threads of its timeless appeal and why we think it still holds up today.

In the Doctor Who promotional mini-webisode " Songtaran Carols" (2012), the Sontaran warrior-nurse-detective Strax stated: "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose. It proved to be a tactical disadvantage, because it enabled me to punch him in the dark." As one of the world’s leading animators, Mochinaga developed an international reputation, and Rankin met Mochinaga during a 1959 tour of Japanese animation studios. Today, Goldschmidt credits Mochinaga’s Animagic technique with pushing the GE Fantasy Hour to new heights. “[ Return to Oz] wasn’t as big of a hit as Rudolph became, and I think that was because Return to Oz was in cel animation and Rudolph was in Animagic,” Goldschmidt says. After all, the same team of writers and producers created both specials. Ford, Don (November 19, 2010). " 'Rudolph' remembered". My View. Halton, Ontario: InsideHalton.com. Archived from the original on June 11, 2012 . Retrieved December 2, 2011.

In GoodTimes' retelling, three of Santa's reindeer (Dasher, Comet, and Cupid) are his uncles, and Cupid's son Arrow is Rudolph's cousin and rival.

The godawful songs are part of the problem - they seem to happen after every few lines of dialogue all the way through. It makes it impossible to bear - it really is awful stuff. The animation is also pretty bad. That might seem a bit unfair considering it looks OK and is computer animation, but it is the sort of animation you get in cut scenes on average games on your PC. The camera moves very slowly, the characters cannot move very fast and none of them are lip-synched at all!
