In theory, I could use the old dummy plug with a DisplayPort adapter but that’s just becoming complicated. I have connected PenCam via AV cable to 7 inch TV monitor (RCA chinch cable) to get no video signal. However, there is a slim chance you have a bad HDMI to DVI adapter, so perhaps try the adapter with a known good combination (e.g. HDMI output from a laptop) to ensure the adapter is good.
