Grant was born in Hammersmith, West London, on 14 April 1932, the son of Albert George Grant (1909–1985) and Florence (1909–2001), néeBurston. He was educated at Aldenham School. [1] Early career [ edit ] Joan Littlewood directed Grant, as Kitely, in Every Man in His Humour, at the Fourth International Season of the Theatre of the Nations Festival in 1960. Get that bus out! - British Comedy Guide". British Comedy Guide. 6 September 2011 . Retrieved 1 June 2018. This particular spin-off is probably the best of the three movies. the plot, such that it is, concerns the arrival of a new manager at the bus depot who is hellbent on making a profit for the company. So he introduces a number of efficiency drives including; the installation of radio control in the cabs, fire safety training, and extension of the bus services to include excursion tours. Naturally, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. As with the previous movie, there are many subplots: A jealous Olive calls Nymphy Norah a fat cow, despite the fact that her own weight has always been a source of humour throughout On the Buses. Marriott, Anthony; Grant, Bob (1991). Home is where your clothes are: a comedy in two acts. London: Samuel French. ISBN 978-0-573-01789-6. OCLC 26310819.

Among the best scenes were the cat-fight between Olive and 'Nymphie Norah' ( a clippie who Arthur seems to have a thing going with, played by Pat Asthon ), which culminates in Norah getting a jug of water tipped over her head by Mrs. Butler, a botched fire drill at the depot in which the whole depot is engulfed in foam, Stan reversing into the bus company's new van, crushing it like a beer can and Olive falling off of Arthur's bike and down a manhole. The film's catchy theme tune was an accordion arrangement composed by Ron Grainer. Here we have an engagement plot involving the usual twenty something who is lusting after middle aged Stan Butler. Lots of very funny scenes around this and a there is a good strong storyline involving the plot around them finding somewhere to live. Ann Harrison McCall (19 September 1936 – 22 February 2022), professionally known as Anna Karen, was a British actress best known for playing Olive Rudge in the ITV sitcom On the Buses from 1969 to 1973 including its film spin-offs and stage version and Aunt Sal in the BBC soap opera EastEnders on a recurring basis from 1996 to 2017. She also reprised the role of Olive Rudge in The Rag Trade from 1977 to 1978, while her film roles included parts in two Carry On films: Carry On Camping (1969) and Carry On Loving (1970). a b c "Bob Grant". We also have the usual antics around Stan Butlers cramped home with a good chunk of time spent dealing with Olive and Arthur and their very flatulent toddler ' little Arthur'.

As a Hammer completist I was dreading the time when I would have to raise the courage to watch this film and the one following it, Holiday on the Buses. I had seen One the Buses the film and thought it one of the worst films I have ever seen. It was full of all the awful comedy that plagued British TV screens around the early 70's. Grant, Bob (1960). In 1957, Karen married Richard Smart with whom she lived in Italy for several years while he trained to be an opera singer; however the pair divorced and Karen returned to England. [3] In 1996, she played a supporting role in the film Beautiful Thing, as a neighbour of the main characters, Ste and Jamie. That same year, she reunited with Barbara Windsor, this time in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. Karen played Aunt Sal, the sister of Windsor's Peggy Mitchell. Although she was never a permanent cast member in the soap, she appeared as Aunt Sal occasionally, usually for only one or two episodes at a time. [22] Alongside EastEnders, in the late 1990s, Karen appeared in a number of educational films as well as an episode of Goodnight Sweetheart.
