About this deal

Yes. For step-by-step mounting instructions, please refer to the Setup Guide included with your camera or our Help Centre installation guides. Note: Use a minimum 18AWG or higher round 3-core cable with outer diameter of 6-7 millimeters and core diameter of 0.75-1 millimeters. Installing your Ring Spotlight Cam Wired is a simple process. The steps below will help you prepare and mount your Spotlight Cam. New to this model are several features previously only offered with the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro including Bird’s Eye View and 3D motion detection. The 3D motion detection feature allows you to create custom motion zones with distance thresholds. When the sensor detects an object, it measures the distance between the object and the camera and sends an alert if that distance exceeds the threshold. 3D motion detection also powers the Bird’s Eye View feature that lets you see where visitors have traveled while on your property. These events appear as dots on an aerial map and show the path of the visitor. Other new features include color pre-roll, which shows you what triggered a motion event with up to six seconds of extra video, color night vision, and dual-band Wi-Fi. Note that the spotlights here aren't nearly as bright as the floodlights on the Floodlight Cam Pro. On all models, the camera and associated features remain the same, it’s just the power supply that differs. What’s more, you can retrospectively switch the power supply method by purchasing the relevant accessories.

Motion Detection uses radar technology to identify where and when a motion event will be recorded. The radar sensor measures distance and angle of objects in front of the camera, allowing for more specific motion detection alerts. Within the Ring app, users easily customize where on their property they want the camera to start recording when an object crosses a threshold. And, once 3D Motion Detection is set up, it powers Bird’s Eye View which provides an aerial map view at motion events in front of your camera and clearly shows the path that visitors take when visiting your property. The setup process is a little laborious, requiring you to accurately pinpoint on a satellite image the install location of the camera. Then you need to adjust where the camera is looking and what it can see. If you get any of this wrong or it’s not close to as accurate as possible, alerts and mapping of a person’s location will be completely wrong. I do wish Ring used a snapshot taken by the camera itself, instead of a satellite thumbnail for Bird’s Eye View. Things you can do in the app include (left - right) adjusting the Bird's Eye view, motion frequency, alerts and view recorded footage (Image credit: Future / Rachel Ogden) The camera uses the same Ring mobile app as all other Ring devices and appears in a panel on the dashboard along with any other Ring devices you have installed. Tap the panel to open the camera’s home screen and then tap the play arrow to launch a live video stream that can be viewed in full-screen mode by turning your phone sideways. Here you’ll find buttons for initiating two-way talk, muting the speaker, and ending the stream. At the bottom of the screen are buttons for turning the lights and the siren on or off, and there’s a Control button that opens a screen where you can also turn the lights and siren on and off. (Credit: Ring) I found app installation and setup pretty straightforward. As long as you’re in range of the Wi-Fi signal the camera will be connected to, it’s simply a case of following the on-screen instructions to set up an account, or add the camera to an existing one.On the whole, the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro Battery proved problem-free in terms of monitoring and alerts once it was set up, although keeping it “talking” to our Wi-Fi was an issue. The property where it was installed relies on booster discs to extend the signal outside – and while this has been sufficient for other outdoor tech, this camera didn’t work well on the system. Often simply nudging the camera for a better angle would cause it to lose connectivity. Essentially, you’ll need a solid Wi-Fi signal for the best performance – and you may well find that while the battery doesn’t limit where you install it, connectivity could have a bearing. Ring states that the Spotlight Cam Pro Battery requires a minimum upload speed of 2Mbps for optimal performance. WARNING: The pressing plate should be over the cable insulation, and not over the individual wires.

Plug your Spotlight Cam into a power outlet Plug your Spotlight Cam into an outlet in the same room as your Wi-Fi router to set it up. However, without a subscription to Ring Protect, you won’t be able to review any videos that you missed in real time, and you won’t be able to save your videos or share them with anyone. Photos will not be captured. Ring Protect is a comprehensive subscription that activates video recording and photo capture, saving and sharing for your Ring doorbell or camera, plus a few extra perks. Learn more about Ring Protect. In my case, the Spotlight Cam Pro is facing an area with an outdated satellite image that’s full of trees that no longer exist. The end result is a map of a person walking atop trees, leaving me to guess, for instance, which side of the fence the motion is on if I’m going strictly off of the dots that show up on the image. Ring Spotlight Cam Pro review: Verdict image": "//en-uk.ring.com/cdn/shop/files/ring_spotlightcamplus-battery_wht_1500x1500_9ec34de9-e816-445b-9722-8c47a491f670.png?v=1688385191",Along with better distance estimates, motion alerts are more accurate and it helps eliminate errant motion alerts that Ring devices have been known to produce.

What could be useful, if you have more than one device, is the app’s Modes. These allow you to activate all cameras at once when you’re away, for example, or just the outdoor ones when you’re at home, plus its motion schedule, which enables alerts and recordings while you’re away. Installation by a qualified electrician may be required in your area. Refer to your local laws and building codes before performing electrical work; permits and/or professional installation may be required by law.
